BAGHDAD, Iraq — Kurdish security forces have captured 15 militants in northern Iraq, including one man believed to be a senior leader of a local Al Qaeda-linked group, an official in a pro-American Kurdish party said Tuesday.

Among those arrested late Monday evening was a man identified as Hemen Banishiri, reportedly the second-in-command for the radical Kurdish group, Ansar al-Islam (search), said Saadi Ahmed, a senior member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan's (search) political wing.

Folks, I'm sorry. I'm not finding anything about this on the news websites. I'm embarrased. I caught a glimpse of Vestor's program where they were discussing the surrender of the Al Qaeda associate on my way to get a cup of coffee, then the announcement that 20 Al Qaeda were in custody in Iran. Guess I jumped the gun.

I will now take beatings.

Dont be too embarrassed. Yesterday I copied and pasted the JAWs movie script version of the Sharks attacking the men of the downed Indianapolis in WW2 in a thread by accident!

Had no idea till people made fun of me, was in a hurry. ;o

No beatings required.

The "Tehran Trio" sounds like a pretty high-powered bunch. And the Iranian Republican Guard is it's own little kingdom?

Oh. Yeah. That was a bad one! ;)

Well I asked the moderator to remove this from breaking news since it hardly applies.

What makes you think that al-Harbi or the two others who also surrendered have fallen out of favor with the senior leadership?

And yes, the IRGC/VEVAK is pretty much autonomous within the Iranian hierarchy.

They've also been getting quite cocky lately:

Not too hard for Iran to figure that when old boy gets back to SA he's going to spill.

Tehran dredges up their "20 captured AQ", without specifying names, and the mullahs are covered, no matter who he says now lives in Iran.

They will get away with it too.

We haven't had any reaction to anything they've done or said lately.

You'd almost think we were ignoring Iran.

;-)
