"If society has no standards, we cease to be a society." Yes, very true. And our founding fathers recognized that their experiment in liberty could not work if the people were not virtuous.
Are we to the point of so little virtue that our constitution, and the experiment in liberty, must be abandonded?

More idiotic posturing that's likely to do nothing but derail support for the bill to limit judicial meddling.

This is ridiculous. The federal government is not Constitutionally authorized to control state marriage laws, desperate cries to the contrary notwithstanding.

I hope not. I don't think the Constitution is incompatible with liberty. Unelected judges, amending the Constitution without care, on the other hand, is the worst domestic threat our nation has ever faced.

I've been away for a while, so I'll be commenting to both of your comments.
1. Family is the basic building block of society. It is wear values are inculcated to children. If we have anarchic families, as our society has been sliding towards, we will have an anarchic society. I find it no coincidence that we have seen corruption at the highest levels in government, religion, business and sports as we witness the first generation of the post-nuclear family taking the reins of power. Society has a responsibility to encourage traditional, stable families if it wishes to survive.
2. As to the Romans, it is probably true that unchecked immigration helped to kill the Roman Empire as surely as its moral decline. Yet the softness that led the Romans to welcome invasion came from their moral downfall. We witness the same process today in America and it is truly frightening.

How do you propose to deal with the Full Faith and Credit clause?

I wonder if Mr. Kerry will show up for the vote...

Without our Constitution, there is no liberty, IMO.
Yes, agree with you completely about the judges. Some of them believe in the "rule of men" instead of the "rule of law."
