July 31, 2004 -- BOSTON — Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton warned President Bush against evoking too many 9/11 images in his re-election campaign and the GOP convention in New York or Americans would reject him as an "exploiter." Clinton said that while Bush, as commander in chief, is entitled to bring up and talk about the 9/11 terror attacks, relying on it too heavily will invite criticism and ultimately backfire.

"It has to be done in a careful way or people will think he's exploiting it," said Clinton in an interview with The Post at the end of the Democratic convention.

"He is the president, so he has a right to bring it up, but if he's not careful, people will think he's exploiting it" for partisan advantage, said Clinton.

My fellow Americans, wow, what a strange journey this nation has been on since our last convention. From the fiasco of Florida to the utter destruction of so many here in New York, all of us have been on an emotional roller coaster that is unparalleled in any portion of our history since the times of the civil war.

But today, I have good things to report to this convention: The nation which sponsored those despicable acts of terror against us is about to hold free, democratic elections. A nation that the mighty Soviet empire couldn't defeat fell apart within weeks of our entry into their country. We found and arrested many of those who felt that the best way to govern a country was to hold public executions in a stadium built for sports.

Of course, the anti-war folks out there have quietly forgotten this, charging that I have done nothing to fight this war on terrorism. In a way, they're right. I haven't done as much as the brave soldiers who are on the front lines today in Iraq and Afghanistan. That's the worst thing about being commander in chief; having to make tough decisions and see them through. Because your decisions affect the lives of brave young men and women. And when you make decisions, you have to stick with them.

Now, I gotta admit, I'm sort of confused by my opponents position. In the past, he has demanded foot soldiers be sent into Iraq. He even voted for this, and now he's trying to change his mind. Which is a bit par for the course; he didn't want to kick Iraq out of Kuwait either.

If he's so eager to report for duty, there's a seat begging for his attention in the United States senate, and it'd be rather nice if he got back to his job.

That's one of the things that always amazes me about these campaigns. How can you stand there and tell the American people what you want to do when you've been in power to put forward those ideas for a generation? If these ideas that they're tossing around are so good, how come I don't see them on my desk ready to be signed?

I take my job seriously, and I hope that all of you will join together and give a resounding vote of confidence in my continuing to perform that job for another four years. Sure, there have been some rough spots. I won't deny that. But I think I've done a pretty good job. The economy is recovering from the double hits of the dot com bust and the corporate scandals, not to mention, as I'm sure my opponent would like me to avoid saying, the brutal attack on our nation.

Jobs are being created despite the wishes of those who want to put back into place the heavy burden of taxes which I fought hard to get lifted. If you want to see those tax breaks go away, the fastest way is to elect someone else.

I could go on for nearly an hour, but it has been the habit of this party to not waste words. I promise to do as best as I can, as I have done, for the next four years, and to do that, you need to go out and vote for me come election day.

I'm George Walker Bush, and I'm not just now reporting for duty.

If they want the female vote, all they need to do is show "interviews" of mother with their children who are very nervous about their family's safety...

It is all well and good to talk about creating jobs, etc., but we need to be ALIVE and have a place to to work ....

What nerve! This is the same *bitch* who went on national TV and made up a story about Chelsea Hubble jogging around the towers with a grande latte -- and then Chelsea herself made up yet another easily debunked tale!

That was a slap in the face to every family who lost a loved one that morning. They undoubtedly wish that their loved ones were as far from the danger as Webb's kid was.
