More on Kerry and hunting

Posted on 08/03/2004 10:26:47 PM PDT by kdwmson

Hate to re-open the Kerry-shotgun-hunting can of worms, but check out the whole quote: “I go out with my trusty 12-gauge double-barrel, crawl around on my stomach. I track and move and decoy and play games and try to outsmart them. You know, you kind of play the wind. That's hunting.”

Decoys? Using decoys to hunt deer in Mass. is all sorts of illegal. Not that anybody needed more evidence that the guy is full of BS, and I don't mean buckshot.

It's not a matter of a candidate being a fan of their team. The guy is allegedly a big Red Sox fan. He's obviously faking it (and not doing it very well).

That was pretty much my point -- that instead of faking all this stuff, he should just be up front about it. I think most people respect that more.

"hmm I thought you used rifles with scopes not shotguns to hunt deer? I'm not a hunter, just a handgun carrier, but it seems to me a shotgun is more for use on birds and small game like squirrel & rabbits, not big game animals like deer. A 30/30 would be a better choice of a deer hunting gun."

Some states mandate shotguns only for deer hunting, hence "buckshot" or slugs. Their thinking was that a shotgun's limited range would make the hunt more "sporting" and the massive trauma from a slug or multiple buckshot hits would be a more humane death for the deer.

Personally I have found a well placed shot with my 30-06 is quick and quite humane.

"Maybe he got the whole idea from "The Deer Hunter."

. . .could be; would not be the first time he has borrowed from Hollywood.

Wonder if Kerry 'fishes'. . .would really like to here some 'fish stories' from him; a fisherman or not. . .he could probably tell some good ones. . .

Where I grew up in MD, it was only legal to use shotguns to hunt deer.

Rifled slugs are the preferred ammo. Most muzzle loaders have similar ballistics to the modern shotgun/rifled slug, so there is a muzzle loader season there now.

Now I live in North Dakota, and use a .30-06 instead of a 12 gauge. (I did take my first whitetail in MD with a .410 long ago....I was 11 years old.)

I still don't see what the 2nd Amendment has to do with hunting.

LOL, neither do I.

Actually, most of the states which mandate shotgun only have fairly high population densities which could make a stray round more of a hazard. (I know, there are not supposed to be any 'stray rounds', and there are not among those I hunt with, but on this thread there is photographic proof of dangerous people in the field.)

Also, most of those areas are fairly heavily wooded. A shotgun with a slug barel and decent sights or a low-power scope permits one-shot kills out to past 100 yards, generally as far as one can see clearly in the terrain. My dad took one whitetail with a 12 ga and a 4 power scope at 175 yards, standing, (while in his 60's), but dad is one of those guys who shot 'possibles' in the military with a rifle.

As for Kerry's picture, not many states ( if any?)permit deer hunting with dogs.

My Tivo says 'Executive Pond' WAS on today, but I missed it,
DID ANYONE SEE IT?

It is supposedly on again tomorrow too, per Tivo and per
the Time Warner schedule...

Either way, it seems it will be on Friday for sure
regardless of which schedule you reference.

Do you think it's a bad one to post? The original picture is not a made up one, just a coincidence how it turned out.

No I don't think so. Here is how I've been posting it:

This is an ACTUAL pic from Reuters on July 3, 2004, NOT a Photoshop!
This post is intended as HUMOR, not intended as offense !

That's it! No more "Pull my Finger!"
