Second that. My BIL lived in Boerne and we ate at several BBQ joints around there. Farmer's was the best. To anyone who says NC BBQ is the standard . . . you can't TOUCH TX BBQ. NOT EVEN CLOSE!!!

It is as good or better than any I have seen down South or in Texas.

Ironically Fort Worth is the WORST food place, especially BBQ, in the entire world (unless you REALLY REALLY REALLY like Nacho Sauce, which they put on everything). cam't get real Texas ribs there, just them wussified St. Louis dainty chick ribs.

Oh, indeed, that would be Bob's BBQ. I used to eat there as a 7th - 8th grade delinquent when we went to visit my brother who was going to skool at ECSU. Had a blast from the past back in April when we went to see my nephew's last home baseball game for ECSU and stopped at Bob's on the way home.

Bob's has opened a branch office at one of the hotels in Norman; I'm not sure which one.

Sweetwater BBQ in the Ozarks of Missouri.
Right off I-44, Exit 163.

They smoke their own meats. My favorite is the whole chicken. It's mostly a carry-out, but there are a few tables indoors or outside on the porch.

KC has two fine places - Arthur Bryant's and Gates.

I second that re: the Hickory Pit. Also include Letha's in Hattiesburg, Ms. A great BBQ place originally in a old shack in Foxworth. Letha's daughters took over the restaurant when she retired and moved it to the closest college town (Uni. of Southern Miss.). Based on its success it was a smart move...

Anyone with entries in a state other than NC don't friggin' know what they're talkin 'bout.

I drove through NC last week and stopped at Smithfield's. Had a pork sandwich, which was pretty good. This is a chain, so I'd be interested in a native's opinion.

It depends.

If I am in Augusta, GA, its Sconyers BBQ. Quality Meat, good spicy sauce, Hash based sides, good Tea.

In Savannah, its Barnes BBQ...same as above but the sides aren't as good. The tea is like manna!

Disney World has quite good BBQ at the FlameTree in Animal Kingdom....good portions and good taste.

The BBQ I smoked on the grill last night was the best I've had in a while. I made the tea and it was also good.

With me, the best BBQ in the world does depend on where I am at the time.

RATS REAR

County Line has good ribs, BUT:

1) I said in the area, not half way to Dallas!
2) The place in Sugar Land still has better ribs.

I suggest we arrange a day of rib eating to settle the matter. We can bring Dog Gone as he owes me 112 beers and you don't drink!

It seems like we have a lot of obnoxious newbies here lately.

Maybe we need some sort of "Newbies Posting Pen" until these kids learn their manners.

Anyone who doesn't understand that conservatism is an optimistic, happy and humorous philosophy isn't a conservative.

My brother in Goldsboro agrees with you. I guess I should disown him as he has never taken me there. He did take me to Parker's in Wilson though.

Great! Have you been back this way lately?

The sandwich is piled high with sliced brisket. Some folks buy one to share and still have left overs!

The fresh meats there are also excellent.

I'll throw in the fourth vote on this thread for Dreamland, but only for first runner-up.

The winner and all-time champion is Big Bob Gibson's in Decatur Alabama.

Growing up in Chicago I was fooled into believing that Carson's was some sort of great BBQ place. Its a good restaurant, but I moved to KC some years back and learned what BBQ really is. I live in DC and won't even waste my time by visiting any local place claiming they know BBQ.
