Brit Hume and Lt Col Bill Cowan Supporting Switfee Story
Fox News

Posted on 08/10/2004 3:32:18 PM PDT by what's up

Hume looks to be going after the story. Asking ALL the right questions.

Basically the main topic was whether the other Swift Boat people would have been considered as "serving" with John Kerry.

Lt Col Bill Cowan who served on a Swift Boat said "Absolutely!" In FACT, someone on another boat might be able to BETTER see what was going on on Kerry's boat than the men on the boat themselves because they have a panoramic view of the scene.

Has my favorite Fox Soldier, Bob Belilaqua, chimed in yet? I know this isn't his bag exactly but I miss his Iraqi War commentary.

I think we should start a thread about all the mental problems people think that Kerry is afflicted with. He is obviously a serial liar and has delusions of grandeur for a start.

Brit asked Carl Cameron about it on Special Report, but Carl said no comment from Kerry camp. I guess they are hoping the liberal media will let it die and they will just stonewall.

Kerry supporters will vote for him even if he turns out to be a psychopathic satanist and has never told the truth in his life. These people have to support him by blind faith, but their religion is solid. To them, Michael Moore is a credible documentary journalist, the Da Vinci Code is true and the Bible is false and Kerry is as close to the beloved Clinton as they can get. Finally, to them, they will drink Kerry's Koolaide because it's an "anybody but Bush religion"

When Cowen was talking it seemed to me that he was headed toward mentioning that the Swift Boat guys lived together, bunked together, ate together and partied together, and knew each other intimately. Brit, as his want, interrupted to clarify a point, and Cowen was never able to continue.

I believe that the background of where these guys docked, ate, slept, etc., is an important part of the "they didn't serve ON his boat" story.

I still feel a strong bond with officers I served with in a unit twenty years ago. This kind of thing just doesn't happen unless there is a serious issue involved. It's especially concerning when you realize this was one of the few, if not the only, positions where Kerry served in an executive, leadership role.

He's a bit too diplomatic and polite....

He did say he has known Kerry since the age of 5. This may explain why he was cautious when the story first broke.

I heard that segment but they brushed it off as "near" Cambodia. I think we should make sure Brit gets an email about the Washpost article from 2003 which is on Kerry's website showing the contradiction. I think they may let it die if they get the impression as Brit indicated today that the speech were he mentioned Cambodia was from 1986. It of course makes it even more relevant that Kerry was VERY RECENTLY making this false claim.

Brit should point this out.

This is typical Lanny Davis strategy. Get the bad news out there and let people get to hear what liars everyone else is until the bad news is boring

It's not only that, it's the Dems cynical manipulation of the masses. They believe that the majority don't have a moral core, can be talked into understanding errors of the heart or judgment or drawn in as sympathizers to victims. This is why they can ask, straight faced, does it really matter if John Kerry lied about being in Cambodia. Well yes it does matter, the context matters, the fact he stood in the Senate and used that information to manipulate people and underline a point about the President of the United States lying to an entire country. How in the hell can't that matter and yet they wonder.

Abbu Gahraib pales in comparison to the types of atrocities Kerry described. Bring it on, let them wail about how bad Abbu Gahraib is.

Tie it into Kerry---how can he be Commander In Chief when he has admittted to committing atrocities? Why is he not being prosecuted?

What Senator Kerry? Lied you say? Oh, I get it, you committed atrocities after he didn't commit atrocities.

Seems to be a lose, lose situation.

A picture is worth a thousand words. These pictures and commentary show that all these vets were in very close contact with each other. None of this "they did not serve together"

On the O'Reilly "factor"....

I understand the frustration we all feel with O'Reilly, but I am honestly expecting him to do a 180 on this story sometime in the next week or so.

When he does, he will have more credibility with the public than he would have if he had jumped on board instantly.

Let's wait and see.

Did the boats ever tie up together? Did any of the vets that did not "serve on the same boat with John Kerry" ever set foot on his boat? Did Kerry's crew ever set foot on another boat? Did they eat in the same mess tent, pass each other on the way to the latrine?

I can't beleive Hannity last night was so stupid as to not catch Lanny Davis is this rediculas assertion that because they were not assigned to the same boat that they did not serve together.

Ok, someone answer these questions for Hannity. I'll watch Brit tonight and see how he did on them.

I believe that whatever Kerry SAYS happened, he should be accountable for the truth of.

When he SAYS something happened, then proceeds to engage in history revisionism (with the help of Steven Spielberg), we need to hold his feet to the fire of the TRUTH!

IT'S OUR DAMN DUTY to see to it that Liberals don't pull their "Well, what's the truth anyway? I can be anything Kerry wants it to be, and who are WE to say it wasn't the way he said it was."

THE TRUTH IS THE TRUTH, and Liberals rewriting THEIR dictionary's doesn't change a thing!!!

To paraphrase an ophalmologist radio commercial in South Texas, "you take Peña, no you take Peña!" as no one wanted the local nerd on his sandlot baseball team, I can imagine that the other swift boat skippers in an operation, upon learning that the Boston Strangler was on a mission with them, would be arguing, "You take Kerry. The point is that Kerry wanted people who listened to his personal story, to believe thatKerry was in Cambodia. Whether he was there or not is irrelevant. What is relevant is an inquiry into whether or not he was making up a story to suit his personal ambition.

What makes you think he'll change his mind?

Probably its just naivete on my part, but the facts of this story are so compelling, so well documented and attested to by people of character, that it will be well nigh impossible for him to stand athwart the force of the truth.

O'Reilly's shaky credibility could be argued, I agree, but he does need to maintain SOME, at least, and that is why I think he will eventually come around.

I'll admit I could be wrong. That's why my last words were, "Let's wait and see."

Re. the O'Reilly's remark that he is "staying away from" the SBV story:

There is another possible take on this.

Since O'Reilly has been tangibly PRO-Kerry up till now, this represents a backing away from his non-stop bashing the Swifties.

Could be a first step toward modifing his take on the issue.

Just as an aside, I don't watch O'Reilly at all as I can't get him where I live, I've never read even one of his books, and I'm not carring his water. I'm just wondering out loud if this might just take an unexpected turn in a week or so.

Did anyone hear what Rush quoted re the Cambodian story this morning on the 3rd hour of his show?

He quoted Kerry on the campaign trail a year ago telling a reporter about his top secret mission to Cambodia or something. I was in the car with kids so did not hear every word.

Rush ended the 2-minute segment in that mysterious way he has by saying softly, (paraphrasing) "So either Kerry anticipated getting caught in the lie and tried to pre-empt it, or else he really was in Cambodia."

Anyone know what Rush was reading from???????

Besides, everything I've seen about SF training seems to indicate they could swim even if they were carrying a tank. I wonder if the SF guy was as big a dufus as kerry.
