Did your grandfather know Sacco and Vanzetti?

Interesting pair. IMO, Sacco was guilty, Vanzetti may have been innocent (but probably guilty as an accessory.) He took the fall for the team. Which, as you say, was the Communists.

So far as I know, Gramps never met either man. He did, however, support their protestations of innocence and accused the government of executing them simply because they were commies.

Speaking of taking one for the team, did you see that recent documentary made by the Rosenberg's granddaughter about Julius and Ethel. It was much better than I expected. The woman [can't remember her name] said she began the project with the intention of establishing their innocence. She seemed, however, to come to the conclusion that the government was probably right. There were some interviews with her grandparents' contemporaries where they pretty much admit that Julius and Ethel were executed because they refused to talk. They seemed pretty scummy to me knowing they let others die in their stead. Then again, they were commies and the state is more important that they.

Seems to be a common MO for the communists.

Funny that the investigator started out to prove their innocence and changed her mind. The fellow who wrote the book I read - Sacco and Vanzetti - The Case Resolved - Francis Russell, grew up in Dedham MA in a liberal family and always believed they were innocent. He did a complete review of the case (including the original transcripts and the exhibits, which were still hanging around the courthouse) and talked to the surviving local anarchists, including the guy who coordinated the defense. He came to the conclusion that Sacco was definitely the triggerman who killed the payroll guard, and that Vanzetti may have been present but probably didn't know what was going down.

Some things just don't need captioning...they speak for themselves.

S-O-C-I-A-L-I-S-T-S

Plain and simple.
