I heard just a fleeting mention tonight about a statement Kerry supposedly made in the '80's. He supposedly said "If Boston is attacked with nuclear missiles, I don't want us to retaliate." He allegedly got some sort of resolution passed to that effect.

It wasn't a statement Kerry made

As Lt. Gov of Mass he signed an EO stating that if Mass was hit by a nuke .. there would be no response team

The Cubans in Florida would really like to know this information, IMO, since he helped send Elian back to Castro.

Greg Craig, senior adviser to the Kerry campaign

Williams & Connolly
Gregory B. Craig Partner

In 1990, Mr. Craig represented Senator Edward M. Kennedy as a witness in the trial of his nephew, William Kennedy Smith, in Palm Beach, Florida. In 1983 to 1984, working with Edward Bennett Williams, Mr. Craig represented a prominent businessman who was charged with tax evasion in federal court in Miami. In 1981 to 1982, working with Vince Fuller, Mr. Craig represented John Hinckley who was charged with attempted assassination of President Reagan. In 1978 to 1980, also with Edward Bennett Williams, Mr. Craig represented a prominent businessman charged with bribing a D.C. government official. In 1977, he represented the first FBI agent ever to be indicted, who was accused of illegal wiretapping, breaking and entering and mail opening in connection with the FBI investigation of the Weather Underground. That same year, working with Edward Bennett Williams, Mr. Craig represented former a Director of Central Intelligence, who was under grand jury investigation for perjury in his 1973 testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. In 1975, he represented an individual charged with arson in a six week trial in federal court in Connecticut.

Other Experience: In three stints away from Williams & Connolly LLP,

Mr. Craig has served in government in a variety of capacities:

In September 1998, President Clinton appointed Mr. Craig to be Assistant to the President and Special Counsel in the White House where Mr. Craig served as quarterback of the President’s team that was assembled to defend against impeachment. Mr. Craig was also a member of the President’s trial team in the United States Senate and presented the President’s defense with respect to Count One during that trial.

In 1997, Secretary of State Madeleine Albright appointed Mr. Craig to be one of her senior advisors, and he served the Secretary as her Director of Policy Planning during the years 1997 to1998.

For five years (1984-88), he served as Senator Edward Kennedy’s Senior Advisor on Defense, Foreign Policy and National Security issues.

When I put together the Kerry Timeline,

Good idea. Lots of hard work evident. However, crummy website. Why is everything a link to "empty record?" One consequence of that is that you can't copy text.

I remember hearing drunken barflies who never set foot in Vietnam bloviate on and on about their war stories back in the '70's and '80's when I went to bars.

That is an interesting comment. When I got out of the Navy, (Swift Boats 1965-66) and went back to college, many of my pals were Vietnam vets. Seldom did we talk about our war experiences. Friday night pizza and beer affairs were mostly involved with discussions of how bad the FortyNiners were that particular year or school, or politics or a million other insignificant topics. When war experiences did enter the conversation, as I recall, the focus was ususally on something funny or crazy that happened.

I have been around a few guys though, who are obsessed with their Vietnam experience...it is all they can talk about. It's like the only thing that every happened to them of any importance. I have always viewed these vets as having either a character flaw, or as being NUTS!

Kerry strikes me as the latter, and I think he is crazier than Al Gore, who in my opinion, should be in an institution.

Great tagline!!

I don't know. The links were fine before. Maybe I've been hacked. I haven't been able to fix it and have reloaded the file several times.

I'd say he's one of the Hate America First crowd. He's arrogant and spoiled and probably thinks of us as subjects. I'd say his father was a communist, as was Al Gore's father. Kerry may just be clueless, I don't know.

I tend to agree. Both John Kerry and Al Gore seem crazy. In a way, this is a good thing because they are transparent.

The dangerous one is Hillary. She's just as socialistic but knows how to hide it. She wasn't raised by communists, so she knows how to appear normal and level headed, and hide who she really is.

Thank you for those compliments. Thank you far more for your service to our country.

I graduated in '73, the year the draft ended. It was strange having the draft end just as I graduated. After seeing the Vietnam War portrayed on network TV every night since I was 10 or 12 I was more or less a little peace-nik. Or perhaps more aptly a little scared-nik. I hate the media for the lies they told then and even more for the lies they tell today.

I know what you mean about vets not talking up their war stories. Since about '81 my best friends have been VN Marine vets (through no pre-meditated choice). Although a good scary story might be told they never brag about their 'deeds.' They don't say much at all to non-vets unless they know and trust them very much.

My dad was the same way. He was a WWII Navy vet who served on a ship in the Pacific Theater. I only know of one story he ever told me and, apart from his presence on the ship, had nothing to do with himself. He said he never saw much action but looking back on things now I'd have to think that just being on the sea, in the Pacific, in WWII would have been enough to make you ponder what life is about. At any rate it was a subject he rarely spoke of.

I agree that Kerry is nuttier than Algore. I said that just the other day. And I think he actually lies more than Sick Willie though not as skillfully. There's two things about him I thought weren't possible.

Here's a tagline I started using in reference to Clinton. One more thing that seems even more apt for Kerry.

Thanks. Mind you I already printed the page to .pdf and OCRd it to get the text out! There's always a way, and brute force and ignorance is one way -- works for me.

Keep up the good work! The timeline is really useful.

The Post has new information on this and other Kerry stuff. Remains to be seen if they run it or spike it.

Sorry for the headaches but thanks for the heads up. It should be fixed should you want to do it again. And there are some good articles linked.

I'm adding to the timeline continually. It's getting rather long though.

Thanks for the article. The quotes from George Schutz and Donald Regan never got past the media firewall. All we heard was the left's side of things in those days.

bumping for those who didn't see it the first time round.

We need to keep the pressure on. Kerry is a traitor to this country, and has proved it time and again.

Pray for W and our troops.

"NewsMax"; September 2004. 'How Kennedy Molded and Rescued Kerry', by Richard Poe:

... But the fact is that Edward Kennedy has been Kerry's adviser, political mentor and sponsor since the younger man entered public life in the 1960s.

... You would hardly know it from the network news, but the roster of Kerry's inner circle reads like a Who's Who of Kennedy loyalists.

Robert M. Shrum: David Halbfinge of the NY Times once described him as the "alter ego to Sen. Edward M. Kennedy." Shrum managed Kennedy's 1980 presidential campaign and served as his spokesman until 1984. In Feb. 2003, Shrum joined Kerry's campaign.

Liberal pundit Doug Ireland noted in 'LA Weekly': "[S]hrummy ... attached himself to Kerry like a mollusk ... He's the first to have the senator's ear in the morning and the last to whisper in it at night."

http://www.laweekly.com/ink/04/12/news-ireland.php

Tad Devine and Michael Donilon: Shrum's partners in the Boston media consultancy Shrum, Devine & Donilon.

Mary Beth Cahill: Sen. Kennedy's office chief of staff left her job to take over as Kerry's campaign manager.

Stephanie Cutter: Sen. Kennedy's press secretary replaced spokesman Robert Gibbs.

Jack Corrigan: served as liaison to the Democratic convention

Michael Whouley: field organizer

Tom Kiley: pollster

John Marttila: political strategist

John Sasso: Sasso's résumé includes a stint managing the failed 1988 presidential campaign of Michael Dukakis. Sasso currently serves on the boards of the Fannie Mae Foundation and of the Heller School of Social Policy at Brandeis University.

Prior to his notorious testimony before the Fulbright Committee in 1971, Kerry recruited the assistance of Adam Walinsky, a speechwriter noted for his work with Robert Kennedy. Walinksy drafted the speech and coached Kerry on its delivery.*
