My dad went into A 'Borders' in MD looking for a copy. He asked the clerk, who replied (curtly) "Nope. Sold Out. Both coppies. " Mom (bless her) steered him out before he created a scene asking when the re-order was going to get in....

Maybe in addition to changing Old Media there needs to be a change in Old Publishing. New distribution...maybe 1-800-SO-RIGHT. It would be sweet if the chains that so hate selling conservative authors would be forced to special order them. They'd might have to lay off some of these clueless, loser clerks.

While it is not paranoia, neither is it a corporate wide conspiracy. There is a problem, but the problems are at the local store level. Most of the stories here and in the article have to do with Borders. Where I live, there is a Borders and a B&N within a block of each other. The Borders gets my business because I do NOT get the overt hostility that is very much present at the B&N. In other places it is probably reversed with the Borders worse than the B&N. My guess is that the Mom and Pop shops (with the exception of specifically conservative ones) are much more hostile.

Well, I just went to this site and under "submit news" sent this:

DAN RATHER AND CBS ARE ENGAGED IN MASSIVE VOTER FRAUD AND COLLUSION WITH THE DEMOCRAT PARTY. DEMAND A CONGRESSIONAL INVESTIGATI0N AND CRIMINAL PROSECUTION NOW!

(I didn't have to register or login for the link to work).

Amazon handles web processing of orders for Borders.com now. Some things ordered come from Borders stock, most from Amazon's now, in my experience. Borders found it decidedly unprofitable to compete on the web.

I've had mostly great experiences at Borders, thankfully. There are two in Madison - the one on University Avenue is, for obvious reasons, the more liberal and judgmental one, but the other one on the northeast side of the city is really nice and I've never had a problem finding a conservative book or magazine and the staff is as close to apolitical as I've seen.

As much as I usually like to patronize local businesses, all of the small bookshops in the area are freakishly liberal and I won't go into those anymore.

The bookstores that censored are no better than the bookstores that are poorly stocked. The bottom line is that they don't have the book I want when I go there. (And trying to find out what they have is a pain in the rear.)

I can order far more easily off the web. It's simply a fact.

They can cater to liberal readers if they wish, but they should be aware that that is less than half their potential market. How many people really want to read about granola, mystic crystals, and Global Gaian Warming?

Readers of Adventure and readers of serious political commentary are moderate to conservative.

Don't these clerks realize that us conservatives are the ones with jobs that invest in the companies that pay their salaries?"""

No-They absolutely do not. These are the same "students" who got barely passing grades thru school, now are the freaks of clothing, tattoos, and piercings, and Goth makeup. Daily bathing and shampooing are foreign actions to them. I have walked out of a store and even a bank because I didn't want to deal with them. They can barely get a job that pays minimum wage, with no benefits. Borders has a union? What a joke.

Conservatives can also start paying attention to what companies they invest in, as well as where they buy their goods.

Last winter I made over $100 with my diesel truck which has cables on a coil which extend 25'. Decent people I start for free. The whacky arrogant liberals I charge.

I hope you were diligent and brought a box of baking soda with you to clean the battery terminals of those poor unfortunate libs. Can't get a good connection if the terminals are covered in muck, you know. In fact, it would be even better if you were to use it to clean the INSIDE of each of the battery's cells - about a tablespoon per cell should do it.

First they want to drop a cookie on your machine, and then they have the gall to state:

It's hard to be a "world leader in selection, service, innovation, and ambiance" when you are being a snotty 'Little Suppressor.'

Before ordering from Amazon, I would check out some of the threads on this forum. They suspended their normal policy for reviews on "Unfit for Command" and allowed users to slam the book online. This is the only book they changed the policy for.

You are so right. The next time you're in a bookstore, grab a copy of "Booksellers Market." It lists publishers and what they want. Also a lot of the publishing houses have been absorbed into conglomerates.

OMg, that is really pathetic! Shouldn't bookstores at least require their clerks to be culturally literate?

Not at $5.15 an hour or what ever minimum wage is.

Let's see if the link works. I get most of the liberals books I just have to read here. Great for other books, too.

Seems to me that someone could get rich by starting up a Conservative leaning bookstore.

You could sell the leftist rags just to be fair and to take money from the lefties. But cons are infinitely better at customer service than the great unwashed ever were.

I have a friend who never buys books, she simply goes to our local library and requests the book. They never have it and have to request it from the state system. She figures if she didn't order it and raise demand for it they would waste our tax dollars on some liberal, trashy book she would never read. She considers it her job to improve the reading selections at the library.

I went to B&N just to see if they had the book. I was told by a very snotty woman that they did not have it and if I wanted to I could order it.
8 other people came in in the 2 min I was standing there. This lady and her 19 yo assistant were about to explode they were so frustrated.

I have now been to 4 B&N's in the area and the result has basically been the same.

Such fun!
