Well, don't know why the HTML stuff isn't working this morning, I've had two cups of coffee, sheesh.
Hubby called last night, they had to move to a different shelter, Tate HS. Said they were consolidating the shelters, which was a good thing considering the school he was at, Lipscomb Elementary, had many roof leaks. He had watch from 8pm-12am the night of landfall so he actually SLEPT through the worst of it *L* Go figure.
I know that Tuscaloosa had a tornado and a part of the city was on limited power yesterday and today. Any better now?
I hate to sound morbid, but, the question must be asked. How will this effect the election? I assume this puts Florida out of play. The last thing on their agenda is voting, survial comes first.
Yeah, the news is bad and each set of new photos shows it to be worse and worse. My family is still evacuated, may try to get back today. Told them to hit walmart while still in Alabama since there won't be anything left when they get back to town.
The Blue Angels were here to do a show this weekend, but due to the damage in Pensacola they've had to cancel and head back down to help.
My prayers to all who are suffering in those areas.
Having traveled through that part of the state, and met many of the people, I can say, though, they they will take their duty to vote seriously.
Friends of ours live outside Pensacola. They live on large piece of property in a pretty big home. The roof on the home sustained some damage,
BUT,
they said the damage to their property was unbelievable. Many big oaks snapped in half just like twigs.
This guy's a native Floridian who's seen his share of storms and remarked that usually during a storm, you'll see trees uprooted. But whatever accompanied this storm (whether it was tornadic activity or just strong gusts) did something to the trees that he'd never seen.
Of course they don't have power, just like everybody else, but are grateful they have a roof over their heads (albeit a leaky one).
Thanks. I think that the suffering hasn't yet started. That will happen when the shock wears off. Perishable food is almost all gone due to power outages. Electrical outages prevent gas pumps from working. Cell phones cannot be recharged from the walls. Water is already scarce and sewage will soon be a problem.
Yeah, there's more suffering to come.
Ironically, everything will be rebuilt so it again can be destroyed by another hurricane.
bttt
Some reports said that those big oaks (like those that used to surround my house) were plucked like carrots in a garden.
Preliminary reports say that my house is still intact and was missed by a large oak by two feet. I'm also told that my privacy fence no longer exists.
Thanks for the encouragement.
My fear is the heavily democratic counties, sustained minor damage. We all are praying for the people of Flordia who are devasted from these hurricanes.
Yeah, and those beach condos and hotels were supposed to be "post Andrew" constuction.
It looks like Oklahoma City all up and down the beach.
Heck, it looks like OKC all over town.
