We'll still be rebuiding when you get there!
The destruction isn't just on the beach but also miles and miles inland.

So sorry to hear of this devastating damage and all the suffering. I wrote to Geraldo and asked him if he would cover it. He likes a big story, maybe he will. Someone should draw attention to the needs and losses there. How much has the Red Cross done? Are you getting any real aid at all?
Over in Ft. Pierce, devastated by Frances, they report that grocery stores are still out of a lot of staples, especially meat. My relatives went to a Sam's Club just a ways up the road and they were stocked with just about everything, including lots of steaks. Lesson is, check every source for supplies, you never know when some store might get a shipment in.
If we don't get out boat launched this year (and that's doubtful), we may still come down with our camper for a vacation. We may have to stay north of the area, but it's still a damn sight better than a Wisconsin winter. We'll definitely be down there next fall.
After I saw the pictures, I told my hubby, well, there may be work for you yet.
Yes I did look at the photos. It's terrible, and I'm not trying to diminish them, but there is damage all over the state from storms this summer.
In fact, there is damage all over the COUNTRY from these storms. As we type, the Susquehanna River is about to overflow in parts in PA.
Did you look at photos from Hutchinson Island in St. Lucie County from Frances? Or from Punta Gorda from Charley? I feel for you, but you're not alone here.
Like I said, we need STATEWIDE DADE COUNTY BUILDING CODES. Either that, or people should be on their own as far as insuring their property - in other words, pay cash and don't insure (like Rush did on Palm Beach).
The pictures of the devastation are surreal.

Our children are to transfered to Pensacola in the spring. Does anyone know what the hurricane damage is going to do to the real estate values? I suppose that property will be at premium. Any suggestions as where to look for a home? He is an officer that will be stationed at NAS Pensacola.
I don't even WANT to speculate. NAS Pensacola took a SERIOUS spanking from Ivan. Not expected to fully re open for at least two weeks. My husband is stationed there now, he had just started Navy Class A Aircraft Mechanic school at the end of Aug, and was due to graduate Oct 26. Now...*throws hands up in a who knows gesture*

Pardon my ignorance, but is that steep drop in the shoreline from the beach erosion of the hurricane?
"The owner of this house on Cape San Blas kneels to pray in front of the rubble, Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, in Cape San Blas, Fla. The home was destroyed by the winds and waves of Hurricane Ivan as it passed through the area on Wednesday night. When asked if he would rebuild in the same location, he stated that he was insured and would take the money and do good with it, whatever that might be. (AP Photo/Phil Coale)"
Nothing like a Float up ATM.
Yes it does.
