The name of Max Cleland, former senator and current Kerry partisan and surrogate, continues to surface in the ongoing CBS forgery scandel. He was consulted by the only identified (so far) source, Bill Burkett. Did Cleland contact CBS and encourage them to pay attention to Burkett's evidence and story? Is Cleland Rather's "unimpeachable source"? Is anyone beside Rush Limbaugh raising questions about Cleland's involvement? This could be a whole new area for blogger speculation and investigation. Does anybody out there have ideas for further pursuit?
I wouldn't be surprised. Cleland has went absolutely nuts since losing his Senate seat.
CBS will never admit anything unless faced with overwhelming evidence of the contrary.
He & Sen. Bob Graham need to share a padded room.
Cleland is in the mix. I don't think he's the braintrust on this, though. I don't even think Carville or Begala would be this stupid/nasty/criminal...
What would happen if the Unstoppable Force (freerepublic) meets the Immovable Object (Cleland's wheelchair)?
sooooo that means it wasn't Burkett.
Now, now. Max Cleland was grievously injured in Vietnam. This simple fact makes him immune to all criticism, either personal or professional, from now until the end of time.
Neal Boortz is pushing the same idea. Cleland is the culprit.
Now that's another REALLY interesting line of pursuit!!
Carville/Begalla WOULDN'T be that stupid. It would take a man blinded by anger and hatred of his opponent, like, say...
I'll let you guess.
If it walks....eh....rolls like a Duck, quacks...er. uh....shrills like a Duck, then it must be a Duck.......ugh........Bitter angry loser Dim!

Since? If I had ESP, I'd say you have an uncanny ability to divide time into arbitrary slices. Cleland has been off his nut for decades.
Max Cleland is a bitter man. He'd certainly be willing to turn the screws against Bush.
Ex-guardsman gave Bush records to Cleland
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) A retired Texas National Guard officer mentioned as a source of disputed documents on President Bush's service in the Guard said he passed along information to a former senator working with Democratic presidential nominee Sen. John Kerry's campaign.
In an Aug. 21 e-mail to a list of Texas Democrats, Bill Burkett said after getting through "seven layers of bureaucratic kids" in the Kerry campaign, he talked with former Sen. Max Cleland, Georgia Democrat, about information that would counter criticism of Mr. Kerry's Vietnam War service.

Is Max Cleland the Missing Link in the CBS Docudrama?
What was in this AP report that seems to be slipping under just about everyones radar screens? Bill Burkett, the former Guardsman from Texas and the man now being fingered as the source of the forged ''Memogate'' documents, has admitted that after plowing through several layers of ''bureaucratic kids'' he contacted John Kerrys good friend, the former senator from Georgia, Max Cleland. Burkett told Cleland that he had information that the Kerry campaign could use to ''counter the swift boat ads.''
Mr. Burkett stated he asked Cleland ''if they wanted to counterattack or ride this to ground and outlast it, not spending any money.'' Burkett reported that Cleland told him that they wanted to counterattack. Bill Burkett states he then sent what he had to Max Cleland, and that was the last Burkett heard from anyone involved with the Kerry campaign. The implications of this report are enormous. If these forged documents can be traced from Bill Burkett to John Kerry via Max Cleland, members of the Kerry campaign--if not Kerry himself--could be under criminal investigation for passing forged government documents.
