It looks like W has persueded another Arab to see things in a different historical light.

Peace through war........ what a great concept.

This is good new but I hope the Syrians will live up to their end of the bargain.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the WMD the Syrians are rumored to be using in the Sudan. Maybe they are worried that they might be target number one once we verify the veracity of said rumors.

Syrian forces in Lebanon will start redeploying towards the Syrian border Tuesday, official sources in Damascus told UPI.

This sounds like Clintonesque weasel words to me. Either the reporter is being imprecise, or this could be less than it seems.

What does it mean that troops are "redeploying towards the Syrian border?" How many troops? How close are they moving toward the border? Are they going over the border into Syria? Are they going to be replaced by other troops rotating into Lebanon?

"I wonder if this has anything to do with the WMD the Syrians are rumored to be using in the Sudan."

Do you have any reference for that? Haven't heard that myself.

It might not hurt that G.W.'s chances for re-election are said to have dramatically improved, either. Syria is one of many countries eyeing our election.

Indeed..
as eff'n has reminded us today, more failure and gross incompetence on Bush's part.

So far, the only first hand report about it has been by Die Walt, though their story was picked up by a few others.

France came out on the side of the US about this. Don't know if it was formalized at the UN or not, but I think that balloon went up.

Syria went into Lebanon to get that madhouse under control. What happens if it goes out of control again, does Sharon invade again?

I'm sure Syria is doing this grudgingly. But given that W was sucessfully working the UN, I'm sure Assad could see the downside of giving W a UN backed reason to take him out.
