Well, I apologize to all the smoking pregnant women out there. Apparently I have broken some FR PC rule that says you can't say smoking is bad,,that's just not gonna fly.
Why don't we send this mom cartons of cigarettes to help her along in her safe behavior? Heck, why don't one of those who are offended contact Neal Boortz and have him yank the picture off his site? Apparently there is nothing wrong withe lady's behavior.

I was raised a long time ago, before seat belts and car seats,,,,I guess since I lived to be healthy, it's ok for me to not use seat belts and car seats with my kids,,right?
No one even took the time to ask if I smoke when I'm not pregnant,,or,,to even consider if anyone in my family has been harmed by smoking...just an immmediate defensive pounce.
I was unaware of the smoker's brigade,,here I've been taught that smoking is bad...I called this women in the picture a pig for her hypocrisy and somehow that translates as an attack???? Really? That's amazing to me. God forbid I offend a smoker,,,apparently that is just over the line.
So puff away my friends,,and you will notice if you actually read,,,that I never said anyone was a bad person, bad mother, bad,,or any other anything. You all took offense and launched. That is not my doing.
I guess I've learned the PC police are as alive and well on this site as on any other....
Note to self: Don't offend the smoking pregnant women.

I agree with AD...no one is telling anyone what to do,,but THIS is an OPINION FORUM, and everyone is entitled to their own.
Ditto here. I smoked as a teenager, it was "cool" then. But I quit smoking 35 years ago. Now I can't stand to be around smokers. Have banished the husband to the garage or the deck if he craves that crap.
My son also used to smoke but quit when he started boot camp.
Exactly. But the decent Conservative smokers in Free Republic have been bashed and trashed by a certain few in here, that we can get quite testy.
We are good, decent people, Conservatives who love America and our President, but just because we smoke, some of you try to make us out as dirt.

My hubby quit for 6 months once, and he never made it hard on me, and he never kicked me outside to smoke.
Also, my hubby was a Viet Nam Combat Vet. He stopped smoking for the 13 months he was in Viet Nam, because that was they best way to get a head blown off.....lighting up a smoke at night with a match.

I understand what you are saying and I understand how it would touch a nerve to have someone say "She's a pig" because she is smoking at the same time she is worrying about noise effects to her unborn.
It really surprised me how this all spun out of control,,and I mean that, whew! I don't need people to jump on the bandwagon and condemn this woman,,nor did I. There are lots worse names I can think of. Really, I have no personal issues with smokers,,that's such a superficial thing to judge someone on,,and that's not all I was talking about when referring to that picture....
So, now that I have managed to alienate all who think it's okay to smoke during pregnancy,,,that's unfortunate. I still think it's too risky, esp. for me. However I did not for one minute say in any of my posts that smokers are bad, or unpatriotic, or heathen or whatever judgmental word might have been offensive.
The thing that got me going the most on this post is that I felt my words were twisted,,and, I think that's wrong too. However, whenever I post anything here I realize I may be posting a contrary opinion.
Anyway,,,blah,blah,blah,,I'm sorry you feel labeled because you smoke. I have a question for you,,and this is no trick...truly....help me out here...
What could I have said instead of "What a pig" that would have been able to convey my disgust at this woman's hypocrisy, and at the same time not pissed the pro-smoking during pregnancy crowd?
And I have to ask you,,,do you see nothing wrong with this picture? We may truly disagree about it but we don't have to get hostile,,and I do appreciate your last post here....I got a sense of what you're trying to get across,,,(you're really effective with the slaps by the way)!
I think it's cool to disagree,,because really we are human and we are all pulling for the same values or we probably wouldn't be here.

Listen. We have what is called a Puff List in Free Republic. If you ever get the chance to hang out on our threads, then you will see what I am talking about. It's not just ME that some bash just because I choose to use a legal product. I have a list about 15 people in FR that are Anti-Smokers, and they can get down-right nasty with us.
WE, not just ME, just get sick and tired of it. We all have done much research over the years. A lot of us have our own Smoker's Rights Sites on the Net. I am the President of Forces Maine.
Of course, when someone new comes in, and starts on us in a smoking thread, we ALL get snarky. If you knew the history in here, then you would understand.
I know you didn't 'bash me' but yes, we get our backs up when we see a new person and they start on the negativity of smoking.

Exactly. Many let their emotions run the debates they're taking part in & they dismiss fact and/or scientific data because they're too busy taking things personally to debate the points made & taking them at face value.
Oh man... I just looked at the picture in question a bit closer. Is it possible that she's not holding a cigarette at all? It almost looks like she's just making a fist of sorts & the road is discolored in that general area & only looks like a cigabutt in her hand. Is that possible?
I remember when doctors used to smoke while with their patients.
