At "Gib's Aircraft Videos, PowerPoint's and other Pictures",
http://www.gibstuff.net/aircraft/Videos.html is a ZIP archive containing an excellent video of a C-130 deploying its flares. The swirls and twrils are clearly visible, and if the C-130 had ton or two of flares we'd probably see (correct me if I'm wrong) something similar to the awesome C-17 Globemaster III photo under discussion.

After looking at a number of these pics today, for example see the ones at http://www.diam.unige.it/~irro/gallery.html , the photo of the C-17 Globemaster III (that started this discussion)--so far--takes the prize.
A number of photos that were posted in the comments are no longer. Fortunately, I saw them before they became unavailable and are really nice too. But what happened to them? In the meantime looking through the http://ChamorroBible.org "Photograph of the Day" archives (like another poster did!), http://ChamorroBible.org/gpw/gpw.htm , indeed reveals some really nice photos:

The links marked with an "<--" are up there with the C-17 Globemaster III photo at http://ChamorroBible.org/gpw/gpw-20041010.htm , stunning.
Let me throw this one in since helicopters to a pretty could job of imitating him, but just aren't as pretty and graceful:

You've proven that the http://FreeRepublic.com board has its aerodynamic experts! Thanks for your comments. And it looks likes NASA's insights into the vortices, wakes, and "Twin Tornados" are now part of http://ChamorroBible.org/gpw/gpw-20041010.htm web page.
Have you seen what the http://fark.com readers did with the C-17 Globemaster Photo? They had a field day! It seems like whatever scene the C-17 Globemaster is placed in, it still looks impressive: http://forums.fark.com/cgi/fark/comments.pl?IDLink=1160585

I didn't see that until you pointed it out. You must be a doctor or in medical school.
