How I solved my stolen Bush/Cheney sign problem

Posted on 10/14/2004 8:27:02 AM PDT by Infantry Grunt 1968-69

For the last few days I've been treating a big fireant bed in my front lawn here in Houston. Treat it one day, it just moves to a new location by the next day. Also have lost two Bush/Cheney signs this week. When I got my new sign I decided to pound it as hard as possible into that big ant bed and the black gumbo soil below. When I went to get the paper at 4:30 this morning I noticed the sign was laying in the grass. Not stolen like before but flung a few feet from the ant bed. I can just imaging someone planting themselves firmly and pulling up as hard as possible - until all those little critters found their way up his pant legs.

Fire ants are the insect kingdoms version of terrorists.

They don't sting until they ALL are in position to do maximum damage.

Good job on protecting your sign!

My replacement sign now has a nice coating of "Skunk Shot Gel on it". It's also wired by trip wire to a 160dB personal alarm, and a "pull string" report with several paint balls also primed with more Skunk Shot.

Molon Labe!

You could pound some nails into some 1 inch wooden slats and "accidentally" drop them into the grass around your signs. The weight of the nailheads will likely cause the points to turn up when you "drop" them.

I would like to know where the police are.
There must be gangs of thugs roving the neighborhoods at night, yet no one every sees or arrests any of these pukes.

We have resorted to code in my neighborhood. Dems have signs, Bushies fly US flags. There are quite a few US flags flying, and I have yet to see a Kerry sign and a US flag on the same property.

Good for you Infantry grunt!! Highly effective strategy!!

I had my sign stolen last Thursday night. Then Friday, I found taped to my garage, a full page, George Soros ad that said "why we shouldn't reelect President Bush"

I was so fuming mad I was shaking, and if the scum who had taped it to my garage during the middle of the night had been in front of me that moment he would have gotten all of both of my fists through his rotten green teeth.

That that scum would have the nerve to walk all the way up my driveway and do something as cowardice as tape that to my garage door in the middle of the night just infuriated me. My wife, bless her, who is normally the voice of reason said you should go around and take a bunch of their signs and tape stuff to their doors to. But I don't want to be scum like them. I replaced my sign, and I left my shades up for a few nights. And a few times I walked outside in the middle of the night to see if anyone was there. If they are on my property, they will be dealt with. But I'm not going to scoop to their level.

What amazes me is that they actually might think that by doing this I was going to vote for Scumbag Kerry???
What could possibly make them think such a thing?

I thought about running a wire to my sign and wiring it, like a cattle fence, with a medium charge. Not enough to hurt them but strong enough to jolt the hell out of them.

A friend of mine has had his sign stolen twice. When he reported it to the local police they suggested he put fishhooks around the frame (preferably treble hooks) so when they grabbed the sign they would get a hand full of hooks. Since most signs are stolen at night, that just might work...

I am not allergic to poison ivy. I might rub some poison ivy all over my sign. Hopefully the thief IS allergic to it BIG TIME! None of my kids are allergic to it, my kids aren't, my younger sister isn't, my dad wasn't. My husband and my older sister are allergic to poison ivy big time. I could wear plastic gloves - just to be careful. Could also spread a little honey on the steak and some sugar all round. That SHOULD bring more fireants.

LOL, not a bad idea. I, however, would not be able to get within 10 feet of your sign (not that I would do anything to damage it, obviously).

You know, I have noticed the same thing! I even commented on that to my wife. I did see one house that had a k/e sign with a flag, but it is very uncommon. I proudly fly an American flag, I have a Bush/Cheney sign, and both of my cars have Busch/Cheney bumper stickers and Support our troops magnetic ribbons.

One year our local farmer put his BUSH/QUAYLE sign just inside his electric fence for keeping the cows in the front pasture.

Worked too, the sign was safe!!! Altho clearly there were attempts......

You know, a couple of vials of wasp bait/attractant "accidentally" spilled on that sign might not go amiss. (Just be darned sure to wash your hands thoroughly after applying it). Combine that with some warm floodlights that keep the sign lit and warm 24/7, and you too can "use the beasts of the fields and the birds in the sky for your armies" too.

After the election is over, you might want to try Over 'n Out! (works best if you put it down in early in the Spring). I've been using it for two years and I've had no mounds in my yard this year.

I got rid of my fireants with RoundUp, but there is a huge dog in the neighborhood who leaves a rather large pile in our yard & that really ticked me off, until I decided to relocate it in front of my Bush/Cheney sign. Doesnt show up at nite and will leave a lasting impression on any intruders..

I have a friend who has his sing wired so if they grab it they will get a shock. Another has the sign right next to his dogs, a Rotweiler and a Pit Bull. Their signs have not been stolen. Although the sign that is wired caused some strange telling noises in the night if you catch my drift.

http://www.tanglefoot.com/products/birdrepel.htm
Tanglefoot Bird Repellent adheres to all surfaces while retaining its soft, sticky elasticity. It simply deters nuisance birds from their resting places by making roosting areas undesirable. Registered with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Tanglefoot Bird Repellent is clear and odorless, and can be easily replaced or re-coated as the sticky material collects feathers, dust and other debris.
