United Methodists Call for Accountable Leadership (Petition for B/C to repent)
http://theymustrepent.com/ ^

Posted on 10/22/2004 10:56:20 PM PDT by hipaatwo

Who are we? We are United Methodists bringing a letter of complaint against United Methodist Church members George W. Bush and Richard "Dick" Cheney for their chargeable offenses of crime, immorality, disobedience to the order and discipline of The United Methodist Church (UMC), and dissemination of doctrine contrary to the established standards of doctrine of The UMC. We are calling for accountability and repentance from these two members for their sinful behavior. This specific letter of complaint originates from two United Methodist members, Rev. Courtney Ball and Josh Steward, from the Iowa Annual Conference, but we are encouraging anyone who reads the letter below and agrees with it to sign their name to the letter as well. When the letter has had time to circulate and gain signatures, it will be presented to the various recipients listed on the letter in order that they may investigate the claims and push for a resolution to the complaint.

Our hope: Our hope is that George W. Bush and Dick Cheney (respondents) will recognize the sinfulness of their actions, sincerely repent for what they have done, and move on to change their ways. Although we recognize the improbability of that outcome, we believe that with God all things are possible.

If, however, they do not repent sincerely, immediately, and publicly for their chargeable offenses, we believe that the respondents should have their membership revoked from The United Methodist Church until such time that they see the error of their ways and wish to return.

Why are we doing this? We are taking this action as Christians who are desperate to hold two of our own accountable. We, as United Methodists, understand that it is our duty to support and encourage our members and our leaders, and we have been doing so faithfully through prayers and petitions. But enough is enough. The guidance of our bishops and our church-members has been ignored by the respondents for too long. Too many people have died or suffered from the sins of these two men. Now it is time for them to answer for their actions with repentance, to turn back and follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, or to be judged for not doing so.

Read and Sign the Letter: Read the letter of complaint, and if you are a member of the United Methodist Church, add your name to the list of signatures. The more signatures we get, the clearer the message is that we will not stand for two of our own perpetrating these crimes against humanity

Say, isn't the United Methodist Church one of the principal funders and supporters of The Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice (= Abortion Rights)?

http://www.rcrc.org/about/members/index.htm

After promoting the murder of 40 million unborn babies, they're calling on Bush and Cheney to repent????

That takes brass bells (in your belfry), heh?

I don't get it, these 2 guys out of the whole conference are going to call out Bush/Cheney. Who are they? Nobody I bet (or k-wad staffers). Do they expect this to be shattering or scathing? Is this the best they can do to try to counter the Catholics (like me) who despise k-wad and are supporting Bush?

Fortunately, the actual "Letter of Complaint" is the standard Michael Moore-type bunk. This is merely a group of Christians who can't understand the real issues nor the truth behind what's happened (they claim the president misled us on the war, attacked a sovereign country, etc.--what was said was as true as humanly knowable (and Saddam broke the ceasefire agreement many times before) and Iraq was never sovereign after the ceasefire from the first war because they were subjugated under US and UN terms).

I do believe Christians need to hold other Christians accountable to Scripture; however, these points are not valid in that light.

The church I joined as a youth had nothing bad to say about the sort of middle of the road politics of John F. Kennedy, which is who George W. Bush most resembles.

If the church has moved to the political left along with the Democratic Party since then, I recognize no obligation to follow it there. Leftism is simply saying whatever will make you feel superior to the people who actually are expert in the problem you are discussing and therefore understand that simply saying a magic formula will not solve the world's problems overnight.

Why President Bush attends a Methodist church is beyond me. They will suck the spiritual life out of faster than you can say "Dracula". Please President Bush, ask Pat Robertson or Jerry Falwell to recommend a church for you to attend.

I wrote the following letter to them:

Dear UMC,

Why did I find your organization on a pro-abortion website and a pro-homosexual website? Do you even read the REAL Bible? Both are condemned by God Almighty, you may or may not know Him, but He created you and everyone in your congregation, and believe it or not.....THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE!!! Do you know what that means. HE gets to make the rules, and YOU people must obey them or pay the consequences for YOUR disobedience. YOU must obey the 10 Commandments (they are not the 10 suggestions), and YOU must remember that He is not just a God of Love, but a Righteous and Holy God, a Jealous God who demands that YOU worship HIM and HIM ALONE!!! Did you heretics know that? So I think you should, as Jesus said, "Remove the logs in YOUR OWN EYES FIRST, so that you can see clearly when removing the sliver in President Bush's and Vice President Cheney's eyes. Did you also know that women according to the Bible are not suppose be Pastors or Reverends and the like in any Christian Church? You should confess to God Almighty if you have done this also. And because God Almighty considers homosexuality an abomination, He also abhors homosexual marriages or unions, and therefore any homosexual unions and marriages performed by any Christian minister or in any Christian Church is an abomination also. Did you know that? WELL, you know it now, so it's time for your church to repent of your total disobedience to God's Word, Laws, Statutes, and Covenants.

Yours Sincerely,

I'm lost on this, I'm Jewish. But I don't see what either one of them need to repent for. The petition confused the hell out of me because I see the two of them acting within their faith.
