The bodies of 49 Iraqi army soldiers have been found near the town of Baquba, north-east of Baghdad, according to police. The bodies were laid out in four rows with about 12 bodies in each row, Gen Walid Al-Assawi, commander of the Diyala provincial police, has said.
"After inspection, we found out that they were shot after being ordered to lie down on the earth," he said.
Thirty-seven bodies were found on Saturday, and another 12 on Sunday.
I think it started before the Fallujah compromise. Our biggest mistake was attempting to rebuild a nation before defeating it. That was tried in Vietnam, Somalia and Lebanon, all with identical results. You’d think all the “brilliant” people at the pentagon would have learned that by now.
Probably because a bloodbath right before the elections would put the moderates out of power in three months. It needed to be done in April.
The fact that this is good news in the minds of John Kerry and his minions tells me everything I need to know about them.

The History Channel recently ran a program on the post WWII SS insurgency. We were very brutal, executing saboteurs and their collaborators, and we outlawed reporting within Germany of saboteur activity.
Defeating Fallujah should have been done in April (or May of 2003). Now we have to either minimize casualties or dump the government and re-fight the whole war like it should have been done a year and a half ago. I favor the latter, but there’s not a chance we’ll go there.
The Iraqi soliers are going to have to learn to shoot the enemy. Even if it is another Iraqi.
What amazes me is the courage they display just by standing in line to sign up, much less being in the Iraqi force.
The terrorists have made a grave mistake in attacking Iraqis. They are only giving the Iraqis more reason to hate them and turn them in.

Nope. It's an Allawi supporter in Iraq, quoted in an article on the upcoming Iraq election.
"I will vote for Ayad Allawi because he is tough and knows very well how to deal with Iraqis," said Suad Hamid, a 46-year-old Muslim Shiite housewife.
Iraqis are impressed with Allawi because he appears to be strong and decisive. "He is the only (one) who can bring security," said Saeb Salman, 28, who has a cigarette stand on a main street in central Baghdad.
Even Mona al-Hussein, who said she did not trust the former exiles, said she may end up voting for Allawi. "He's capable and dynamic," she said. "He acts on his words. He always says that he will fight terrorism." She conceded that Allawi has yet to succeed in crushing the insurgents. "I don't blame him, it's a difficult task."
Allawi's determination to end the militants' control of Samarra, Fallujah and Najaf has impressed many Iraqis, said Baghdad University professor Abdul-Razzaq Naas. Naas predicted that the religious parties will not do well in Baghdad. "Most Iraqis are secular when it comes to voting. They don't believe in religion as part of the state," he said.
With our 'hand-picked' Karzai likely to get re-elected, and Allawi likely to continue support for a time, the voters in both countries are signalling a "yes" to the question: "Are you on the side of Western civilization against the global terrorist network?"
There is a claim that 'confusion reigns' here. But these voters seem particularly discriminating on issues of leadership and being able to DO what it takes to eliminate a scourge. One that many Iraqis oppose as strongly as American voters.
Who are we to judge? We have idiots in America who actually claim that a draft is coming - despite a 402-2 vote to turn it down (only Democrats voted for it, 100% of Republicans against it), despite Bush's ironclad "it's not going to happen on my watch" comment, despite the Bush plan to bring troops home from Cold War deployments in Germany, despite the huge victories in Afghanistan and Iraq that proved we can do so much more with fewer troops than ever before. Yet idiots keep making ignorant claims about the draft coming back. HOW DAFT CAN THEY BE?
The Democrats are flunking, but Pro-War on Terror voters are passing the test globally. They know who we need to win this fight and they are picking accordingly.
Perhaps not Iraqis at all but Iranian regulars. It's just a matter of time, Iran is looking for trouble.
I shocking and sad story... These 50 soldiers were most likely decent Iraqi men trying to make a decent living and providing security to their country.
The terrorists have given us another good reason to fight them without any mercy.
These were recruits in the new Iraqi army. I think it's not exaggerating to say things are getting out of control.

Not too hard to understand. It's easier, and safer, for Iraqis to transfer their anger toward America and its military, so that's what they do.

A people does not change overnight. I am sure there was lots of crime going on in Saddam's Iraq. We just didn't hear about it, nor did it get reported.
By saying this you are implying that the nation went from extremely civilized to savage overnight - and just because we are there. Such a statement does not pass the smell test.
In addition, perhaps the Iraqi's under Saddam were required to leave their doors unlocked. After all, many of the thieves and hoodlums we are currently fighting were in power. Perhaps it was a requirement that you leave your doors unlocked so that they found it easy to steal whatever they wanted.
