Some good information on there, but there are a couple I've seen when reviewing records that aren't listed. A "General under honorable", is not considered a bad discharge. It usually means that for some reason (home emergency, injury not related to military service, etc.) the individual did not complete the terms of service, but that there was not a behavioral or disciplinary problem. Most employers have no problem with a general under honorable.

Other than honorable, is a huge black mark for the rest of your life. I strongly advise my people to go back and do anything, including getting a branch of the military to take them on as a reserve, to get any other than honorable changed.

Ok, I was in the Army during Vietnam, not that it matters as I was serving in Europe. But which ever SecNav that might have signed the papers in the 1970's could possibly be prevented by official military privacy regulations from disclosing antibody's type of discharge to the public. Even 30 years later.

I don't know anything about how this works, But I had a friend who got in the Navy and his wife cheated on him with another sailor. When he got home he beat the hell out of the guy. He received an "other than Honorable discharge" but was able to have it changed to honorable after 5 years. He said it was no big deal and that they will change it to honorable after a certain amount of time as punishment and that it was his belief that anyone who receives Other than Honorable can get it changed. The Less than honorable and dis-honorable are the only ones permanent. In fact, he re-enlisted and is still in the Navy---But this could be wrong, I have no first hand knowledge

Alright, listen up:

The words coming out of your mouth about this need to be:

"Kerry did NOT receive an honorable discharge."

If you start out by saying, "He received an "other than honorable discharge," you're going to loose the layperson. Only use this in the explanation.

Additionally, the fact that Kerry used his political influence to have this changed, should be pointed out in the talking points.

Look, I personally know several people who have changed their OTHD to an Honorable after several years. I think you have to wait 2 or 3 years, depending on the situation. You simply have to request it.

But it's definitely a black mark, and NOT becoming of someone who wants to be COMMANDER IN CHIEF.
