He has an honorable discharge, but thousands of discharges were upgraded during the Ford/Carter years.

After Clinton, this won't matter at all even if true. Clinton was a unabashed traitor; the Dems loved him. Kerry's a traitor and they'll love him, too. To quote Ann Coulter: John Kerry = Bill Clinton without the burning sensation.

John Chafee is dead. And Warner never would say this - he wouldn't say you know what if he had a mouth full of it.

Like you, I don't believe any of this - that's not to say that I think he's not hiding something, he clearly is, but no former Secretary of the Navy would run the risk of criminal prosecution by making such a statement. That's patently ridiculous.

MY GUESS - John Lehman '81-'87

Actually, the difference between an OTH discharge and a Dishonorable is more like the difference between a felony and a CAPITAL felony! Either are poison to living happily ever after.

Yup, you're still a newbie. Still got that new newbie smell (much like the smell of a new car.)

There are FIVE types of military discharges:

1. Honorable
2. General
3. Other-than-Honorable
4. Dishonorable
5. Bad Conduct (a.k.a. "The Big Chicken Dinner".

You actually have to try pretty hard to get an OTH. Service members that have been conviced of a non-violent felony or extreme NJP get them. The key is the re-enlistment code.

"The one that happened in 1978 was "in addition to" his alreay existing discharge."

Kerry will have a perfectly reasonable explanation: "I was other-than-honorably discharged before I was honorably discharged."

How about those of us who got lost when the server crashed and we had to re-register ?

You too? I always wondered about that. I know I registered long before my official date, and it wasn't until 2001 that I made my first post: What is al Qaeda? Late October or early Novemner of 2001 as I recall.

"If they did, why not be out there telling the truth earlier when this was made a big issue? "

From what I have heard (scuttlebutt only), this person did not want to come forward unless it was absolutely necessary.

Based on the closeness in the polls, it has become necessary.

It seems to me there needs to be more care given to avoid saying "Kerry did not receive an Honorable Discharge," inasmuch as that is probably a falsehood, since he apparently belatedly, in 1978 from Jimmy Carter or at least by March of 2001, just to mention two of his so-far, four claimed dates of his discharge, did have his discharge upgraded to "honorable."

It seems we need to be clear (assumedly, only if true) that in 197x, Kerry received, e.g., an "Other Than Honorable Discharge, (e.g.) which only through Democrat President Carter, contemporaneously with his draft dodger and AWOL amnesty program" was done this favor from his party's comrade, the President.

What becomes important is the reason for such OTH discharge. If it was stated anywhere that "he gave aid and comfort to the enemy," the man is simply ineligible to be President, and must be removed from the ballot, even if after the fact.

That's my guess as well. Chafee's dead and Warner's useless. Lehman's already in it because of SS#3 so has reason to speak out.

I have this vision of someone getting NJP'd while his commanding officer and the offender are base-jumping...
