GOP predicts Ohio, Bush win Tue Nov 02 2004 23:02:04 ET

WASHINGTON, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- White House sources are telling UPI that they believe George W. Bush will win Ohio and be re-elected president of the United States.

At 10:30 p.m., Bush was told by a senior adviser that Ohio would land in the GOP column and put him over the top with at least 274 electoral votes, the sources said.

"We're very upbeat," Bush said as he watched returns in the Yellow Room at the White House with family members -- including his father, former President George H.W. Bush. "I believe I will win."

Bush's comments shortly before 10 p.m. EST reflected rising Republican hopes that Bush will win Florida and remain in contention in Ohio. Winning both those states would almost certainly return him to office.

The comments were also timed to reach voters in states where the polls had not yet closed including Hawaii, Nevada and Oregon. CNN had Bush leading with 193 electoral votes to Sen. John Kerry's 112.

I guess because the networks won't or can't call Ohio because of bad exit polls, the campaign is going to have to start calling states.

Skerry won CA and WA....

And with 0% precincts reporting ... But then again, this is kind of expected, isn't it?

there's a link on the main Yahoo page for a county-by-county breakdown of the Ohio vote. Cuyahoga cty. (Cleveland) and Summit County (Akron) big for Kerry;
other parts of state big for Bush. Have heard NE Ohio
generally pro-Dem/liberal, rest of state pro-Rep/conservative

Just like Michigan. I think Michigan is teetering on the edge, though.

CNN and PMSNBC had to call the west for Kerry because the EV totals were starting to look off balance and embarASSing for sKerry.

Yeah, and I can understand their embarassment; however, to be fair; THEY SHOULD WAIT UNTIL THE NUMBERS ARE IN, just like every other state.

Heck, Florida is >95% counted, with Pres. Bush leading, and they won't count that one yet.

But, it is exciting, isn't it?

The cynic in me says the networks won't call Ohio so that they can justify charging exhorbitant rates for advertising during the next couple of hours.

Carol Channing, errrrrr, Susan Ostrich is on FNC now telling us that once Cuyahoga county and the rest of the "urban democrats" come in, Ohio goes to Kerry. She'd make a great replacement for Helen Thomas.
