I love how the "let every vote count and count every vote" folks disenfranchised the Green Party and *still* lost. Love it!

Iowa isolationist? The heavily subsidized agribusiness sector in Iowa depends heavily on exporting grain and livestock products, and much of Iowa's considerable manufacturing is exported as well. Agribusiness and manufacturing in Iowa have significant foreign investment. And I won't leave out the Third World laborers that flock to Iowa.

Good ag land is $3500 per acre and there's a lot of it, so owning a modest 320 acres makes you worth... well, you do the math!

Isolationsist indeed!

Iowa ain't no "Green Acres" set any more!

I called Gephardt as the nominee at the beginning of this when there was the 9 demo-dwarves. Gephardt could have won by being "unscary" and delivering Missouri and Iowa. He would have had no problem taking Mass anyway, but may have lost NH. Dems chose poorly...

I was wondering....what if Skerry had taken Gephardt for Veep? Obviously the Breck Girl didn't help win anything in the south. With Gep's union background, and midwest roots, it makes me wonder (to quote Led Zep), could he have helped carry Ohio, Iowa, and Misery for the Ds? I guess we won't know, and that is good.

If we get NM, that's a nice cushion to go with the popular vote majority

With 99% of the precincts in, it'll be a little difficult to "find a box of ballots" to make up the difference for a sKerry win. (Last time, Bush was only ahead by a few hundred votes in the end...and Oh, by golly, they "found" a box of ballots, ALL for Gore, that put Gore ahead by some 200.., I guess, this time, 13,000 is a little hard to manufacture ;o)
