Priority 1: Remove Specter from the Judciary (Day 2)

In Day One we established the need to remove Specter from the Judiciary. To sum it up:

1. Specter is in line to become Chairman of the Judiciary.
2. Specter yesterday showed he expects to obstruct Bush in nominating conservative judges.
3. Specter’s vision of a ‘balance court’ is the exact same rhetoric of Senator Kerry.
4. Specter will do whatever it takes to see the courts do not become conservative. Read his books.
5. Specter is a huge proponent of Rov v. Wade.
6. Specter was not elected President, but has threatened the President should he nominate conservative judges.
7. As Chairman, Specter has the power to kill Bush’s judicial nominations.

Now in Day 2, we must take action. Today’s goal is to create some BUZZ. We need to contact the conservative media, like Rush and Hannity and other radio talk shows. Contact FoxNews, Brit Hume, Tony Snow. Here’s an example:

Senator Specter’s remarks yesterday concerning Bush’s judicial appointments were disturbing. If nothing is done, Senator Specter is in line to be Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. We need a Chairman who supports our President and his judicial nominations in that position, not someone who is on record as wanting to obstruct the President’s judical appointments. This is a very critical position, and allowing Specter to become chairman would be no different than appointing Senator Kennedy. Specter’s vision of the court is 180 degrees off of President Bush’s. President Bush will have a difficult time enough getting appointments through, but it would be an insult if the biggest obstruction is getting past one liberal GOP Senator, especially one who Bush helped.

You may be right that HATCH may not assist, but BUSH may WANT Sphincter as Chair. Then BUSH has plausible deniability to keep Pro-Life whoile retaining "moderate" abortionists in the GOP.

Dear Mr. President,

After a glorious day of celebration (and relief!), I have to say it came as a concern to read Sen. Specter's remarks about the judiciary. As you know from the gay marriage issues, a runaway judiciary that legislates from the bench, or uses a result-based approach, harms our nation and undermines self-government. You promised in 2000 that you would nominate justices in the mold of Scalia and Thomas. It appears that Specter, for whom you campaigned, disagrees.

I ask you to please address this issue aggressively. It is crucial. Please do what you can to get Specter OUT of the way on this issue. You campaigned for the guy. Now please deal with this unfortunate situation.

We're not "stuck with him" anymore. We don't need him to have a Senate Majority. If he gets ticked and joins the democrats, he'll do nothing but hurt himself.

Everyone needs to contact Bill Frist and let him know that Arlen Spector must not be given any Chair on the Judiciary. Frist has the power to stop it.

BUSH also may think he has a mandate to expand the GOP to keep "moderate" abortionists while keeping Pro Lifers with lip service. Let BUSH know our suspicions if he doesn't try to block Sphincter with his "mandate" to begin with!

I am so glad you started this thread. Laura Ingraham started off her show this morning talking precisely about this. She suggested elevating John Thune to the Judiciary chairmanship since he made it one of the centerpieces of his campaign. On the senate side, I cannot think of a more earth-shattering win for cultural conservatives than Thune over Daschle. Thune deserves payback from Bush and the Republicans on several levels:

1. Thune left a safe house seat four years ago to run against Tim Johnson at the behest of the President.
2. After Thune lost a heartbreaker to Johnson, he decided to climb the mountain once again to try and slay the dragon - Daschle.
3. Thune made Daschle's complicity and even leadership on obstructing Bush's judicial nominations a central plank in his campaign to unseat him.
4. Bush and the Republicans owes the Christian conservative voters - big time - not only for their own re-election, but for most every senate seat they swung their way.

Issue #1 for Frist/Cheney/Santorum/Bush is to deny Specter the chairmanship and to get him off the committee entirely. He can still do enormous damage just being a member of the committee.

Grassly does have seniority, but would have to give up his new chairmanship on the Finance committee to take this chair. Grassly has stated the Finance committee is more important to him. It looks likes Specter at the momement if nothing is done.

In their floor statements, Senator BLANCHE LINCOLN and Senator MARK PRYOR noted that Mr. Holmes has broad support among pro-choice advocates from Arkansas

This staement alone disqualifies Specter from any role in judicial appointments, much less the chairmanship of Judiciary.

My guess is that Bush will "reach across the aisle", and in a show of good faith, have a conservative Democrat made the head of the Judiciary Committee.

At least, that's what I hope for. Specter's just gonna make the rest of us look bad.
