KLO's got a post on the Corner that the conversation was taped and that Specter's office is rushing out a transcript. Says he has no litmus test.

He was one of the point men in confirming Clarence Thomas. I'd take four more Clarence Thomases.

Yep, that wouldn't be a politically smart move to piss your party off the day after the election. Sounds like the media trying to tone down the defeat of the democrats.

According to Rush, Specter is transcribing his audio tape of the actual interview. It seems that the AP put words in his mouth that he didn't say. Imagine that, the AP may have lied.

No, the MSM probably lied about what he said. I read quotes of his that do not say what people on FR are claiming he said. The MSM has an agenda to divide us.

Here is KLO's post:

~~~~~~~
BREAKING [KJL]
Right after I released my action item on the Corner, I got some information. I'm told that we'll be hearing more from Specter today. This may be a story about the media. Specter's office is evidently transcribing a tape of what was said right now. Expect a statement from Specter assuring that he has/will have no litmus test for judges shortly, I'm told.
Seems to me he's gonna have to do a whole lot in that statement, though, to calm people down. If he warned conservatives at all about abortion vis-a-vis his position as chairman, he's got to be gone as a chairman choice.
My continued feeling, this guy is trouble, does not stand for my values, judges is a key issue for our future, and an obstacle should not be sitting as chairman of the judiciary committee.
hasnt he (specter) called and used Rushs show before to refute the very words he's(specter) said that got him in trouble with conservatives.
I remember it happening earlier this year I think.
We need to find out whoever did the interview and try to get them fired.
We'll see...I started praying on him! Maybe it's starting to work...or maybe Arlen put out a trial balloon to see how it was going to get shot down...
of course, the MSM is trying to create a wedge and disunify Republicans.
Specter will move on Bush judicial appointments. His _ss is on the line, and he knows it.
I was just about to post that we should lighten up on Specter a bit before I saw this. He has his faults, but let's not forget that he was a vehement defender of Clarence Thomas against Anita Hill and the feminist jihad that had been launched against him. I was suspicious about whether the comments attributed to him were being misinterpreted. Even if that were the way he felt, I doubt he would have said so a day or two after the election.
