Actually Poo, sometimes you have to speak to them in a language they will understand.
It was going to take a 2/3rds vote to convict him, and it was clear that the Democrats were not going to dump Clinton, but that does not mean that impeachment and trial in the Senate was not a meaningful and worthwhile exercise.
Specter's phoney "Scottish law" vote of "not proven" was a weaselly cop out if there ever was one. He was then at little or no political risk from Republicans within his own state, but his subsequent behavior has him an obvious target for the dyed-in-the-wool conservatives. His votes on impeachment are incomprehensible and were never adequately explained.
