YES YES YES -- George Allen is top notch. When he was Governor of Virginia, he did an outstanding job. He's got a fantastic record in the Senate. AND, this year, George Allen engineered the 55-45 majority as Chairman of the GOP's Senate election committee...

(I know, I know, give it a rest... just enjoy '04) But, given that we don't change the Constitution to allow GWB to serve as President for the rest of his life, George Allen is the right man for America in 2008!

Sorry folks - didn't know he was a governor at one time. Even though that's true, he'll have a Senate record to run against (even though it's stellar). I'm sure that there are votes that he had to compromise on that the liberals will be able to exploit.

ALSO - Ken Blackwell for Governor of Ohio. The Country Republicans in Ohio (including Governor Taft) hate him because he's a true conservative and ripped them all a new a-hole about the state tax increases. He was (or is) President of the National Taxpayers Union. Solid guy.

He's a good man, but as we all know it's tough for a sitting Senator to be elected to the Presidency. If he intends to make a serious run at the top job, he should consider not running for re-election to the Senate in 2006, and beginning intense preparations for the 2008 election at that time.

Bill Frist is doing just that, and I think Hillary will do the same rather than risking a loss to Rudy.

Governors in VA are limited to 1 term.

Technically, they can serve two terms, but not consecutively.

Last Governor to do that was Mills Godwin who served once as a Democrat and ran again and served as a Republican. (late 60s, mid 70s)

Well the curse of the 'Bambino' is gone. Redskin loss on Sunday is gone. Let us make Allen our President. Great Record to run on. Will win all Red States and perhaps a couple Blue.

I absolutely love him BUT he's too Gore-like (read: geeky and awkward), and the Senate record is a hindrance. It's better that we keep him in the Senate working for Virginia!

Hardly. He's just genuine.

Don't forget the RATS call Dubya simple and stupid.

No thanks. He ran on a platform in favor of renewing the AW ban. He isn't much of a friend to gun owners. I asked him to reconsider his stance at Sterlingfest just before his election... he totally blew me and other gun rights people off.

If he wants total gun owner support, let him sponsor a repeal of the 1986 ban first. Then I'll support him.

Um...no he didn't.

Newsflash: Bill Owens divorced his wife and got his subordinate pregnant. He will retire in disgrace, not run for higher office.

"Four years ago, in the midst of the 2000 election, I said that my goal in fighting criminals was to enforce, not repeal, existing laws. And, indeed, in Virginia we have seen that incarcerating violent felons is the best crime reduction policy. I would support reauthorization of the 'Assault Weapons Ban' in its current form if this legislation had proven effective in reducing violent crime. I have reviewed the thoughtful claims and extensive assertions of proponents and opponents of this law. I have concluded, after a review of the evidence, that this symbolic ban of 19 firearms chosen for cosmetic reasons is a meaningless, toothless law that has virtually no impact on crime.

"I have decided, therefore, to vote against extension of the 'Assault Weapons Ban.'

Governors in VA are limited to 1 term.

A good thing, too, when the governor's name is "Mark Warner". Something of a bummer, when his name is "George Allen"

I'd rather have Senator Rick Santorum as the nominee, since he is just as conservative as Allen and comes from a more important state in the Electoral College (Pennsylvania).

Both Santorum and Allen face reelection in 2006. I'm certain that Santorum will prevail, but I'm less certain about Allen beating Mark Warner. Allen should concentrate on getting reelected, not on running for president.

Um... yes he did. He relented only when he realized that Gov. Warner is gunning for his seat and Warner is showing himself to be more pro-gun than Allen.

Allen needs to do something pro-active on the gun front. Most of us Va. gun owners see through the charade.

Yesssireee!

I was very impressed with Allen in some pre-election interviews I saw.

Mrs. Allen was a substitute teacher for a while in one of my French classes back in high school.

Very true. Senators can't win because the other side hangs them with their record. Governors are the rule of thumb. Also come with experience Sentators are lacking and the Presidency is just a step up the ladder.
