I don't think that issue is anywhere near the priority with voters you think it is. This election was won on terrorism and the war against it, not abortion.

I think they have a real dilemna. I think Hillary intends to go for it, but the party is going to be afraid to run anyone but a red state 'rat. It will be interesting to see what they do.
For the record, I don't believe America would elect Hillary. The Republican turnout would be too great for them to overcome.

Giuliani/Santorum would probably carry NY, PA, NJ and MI. If they could hold the South and Rocky Mountain states, it'd be a landslide. Giuliani's got three years to reposition himself on social issues -- remember that Bush I was originally pro-choice. Having a strong pro-life candidate on the ticket would also help.
The only way they can win is to assign Bill Clinton as DNC Chairman.
He'll "triangulate" their positions so hard to the center that they'll have to run Rat candidates on the Republican ticket.
Quite a few things hasn't been passed because of Tom the Obstructionist and the RINOS. Bill Frist should have done something with the RINOS.
George Allen would be a great candidate, but the problem is his lengthy (20yr+) voting record. Any of his political opponents would twist and distort such a record to badly hurt him in '08.
In any case, these are the top three candidates who can survive a primary and have a shot at the general in '08. In no particular order, and with comments provided:
- George Allen - former VA governor
pluses - charisma, looks, solid conservative
minus - long voting record
- Bill Owens - CO governor
plus - like Allen, but no voting record
minus - marital issues could hurt him badly
- Mark Sanford - SC governor
plus - ???
minus - not as telegenic as the other two
Agreed, no mormon could win the high office. The resentmen from the other denominations is too strong. Some churches even teach that mormonism is a cult.
Listen to Tribemike everyone. Senators don't get elected. We need to put up a solid candidate with some executive experience. Not sure who, as none of these candidates listed so far gets me too excited.
Haven't seen Engler's name listed so far, former Governor of Michigan. Maybe I am just desperate to get my state on the Red team.
What has Bill Frist done to deserve to be on the list? He is almost as bad as Trent Lott was.

I wasn't aware that Rick Santorum was a flaming leftist like Julieannie. So Santorum is Pro-Homosexual Agenda, Anti-Gun and Pro-Abortion?
There's nothing Giuliuani can do to prevent millions of Christians from staying home on election day if he's at the top of the ticket. He is who he is: a pro-abort, pro-gay social liberal.
He'd have to build a winning coalition without much of the South, which is impossible. Ergo, if he is nominated, he will lose.
McCain or a woman would never get my vote!
