Like how much he promoted Arnold, even going as far as suggesting changing the law so that he could run for president.
"I say trust Bush and the rest of the Republican leadership. If they feel confident Specter will perform as Chair in a way they feel is right then what's the problem? Its not like they can't vote him out as Chair later if he screws up."
I agree with you. Since when did we all stop trusting Bush? The fallout could be bad from this, in ways that we might not realize. Hugh Hewitt has made some good points that I think we need to think about. His post today was quite insightful.
So, I think we need to not act emotionally. All the RINOs would have to do is give the press cover to blame the religious right for things and then we Republicans could lose our majority in 2006.
Keep your friends close but your enemies closer. We don't need another jeffords who could cause hell as revenge.
I have said this so many times on so many threads I am sick of saying this, and I am no fan of Arlen Specter.
If we alienate Specter and other GOP moderates, we risk everything. We need 60 votes to shut down a RAT filibuster of Bush'c circuit court nominations. When we had 51 sure GOP votes last year (and Specter and the moderates voted with Bush to kill the RAT filibuster on every nominee), we were still 3,4,5 votes short.
We now have a caucus of 55 GOP senators and Daschle is gone. The RATS cannot hold their caucus. We can pick up enough RAT votes to break the filibuster, but only if we keep our own caucus intact.
And please don't give me this crap that we're gonna go with the nuclear option to ensure that we only need 51 votes to break a filibuster. Won't happen.
I have asked for four straight days how we garner 60 votes to confirm Bush's district, circuit and USSC nominations without the votes of Specter, Snowe, Collins and McCain. I am still waiting for a game plan from anyone who thinks we can diss Specter with no adverse consequences.
I laughed this morning when Laura Ingraham hung up on a guy that brought up the "single bullet theory" from way back when.
I totally agree with you.
I was unaware that Hannity promoted changing the law. I disagree with him on that. But then I disagree with Bush on closing the borders. Still like them both.
I appreciate that, because my thoughts are about as popular as crabs in a whorehouse.
AMEN!
I didn't catch the whole interview. Did he say anything about his impeachment vote?
From a marketing perspective, he has done well leveraging his television show into radio foray.
Some people have a face for radio. Sean has a mind for television.
Yeah, in two years. BTW, the White House hasn't stated a position except to stay out of it.
Specter is adopting the liberal line and trashing Bork again. "Have you no decency, Senator?"
Why in the hell would Republicans allow a pro-choice Senator to chair THE most important committee in the Senate!
It didn't sound like he was very enthusiastic about Clarence Thomas becoming the new Chief Justice.
I agree. Harry Reid (D-NV) would like nothing more than a Senate majority. If Specter gets raked over the coals, Harry Reid is going to reach out to Specter, Snowe, Collins, Chaffee and possibly anyone else to either go Independent (like Jeffords) or go all the way toward the Democrat party. Do we really want 4 more years of obstructionist tactics from the Democrats? They'll try to obstruct either way, but demonizing Specter will almost guarantee that will happen.
Neither am I. Elevating Thomas would be the single worst political error of Bush II.
We want a reliable chief justice confirmed with as little controversy as possible His name is Antonin Scalia.
Yep, I know of no reason why he couldn't.
More than that. We lose the moderates on the judicial confirmations, other aspects of the President's legislative agenda will be in tatters. It will take 60 votes to reform social security, reform the tax code, provide health care incentives for small business etc.
Whether freepers like it or not, the GOP moderates are the balance of power, the springboard for us to get to that magic 60 number on so many issues.
But he's not.
On Sunday, Specter said that President Bush, the first Presidential candidate to get over 50 percent of the vote in 16 years, did "not get an arithmatic mandate."
Bork Specter! Block him from the Judiciary Chair.
Karl Rove made the White House position known on FNS yesterday.
