Portland School officials consider ban on Boy Scout recruiting

The obvious Boy Scout discrimination is against girls. Why aren't they suing too?

Actually, on a gender basis the BSA is much less discriminatory than the GSUSA. The BSA has programs for girls; it's Learning for Life programs (a non-traditional program designed to be used in schools to teach ethical choices) is used with 1.6 million boys and girls across the country, in all grades. And Venturing (a traditional program, with uniforms, oath, etc.) is for both young men and young women from ages 14 to 21. Whereas the GSUSA does not incorporate young men in any of it's programs, and their international oversight organization (World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, a.k.a. WAGGGS) forbids inclusion of young men by any of it's member organizations. Additionally, in the BSA adult women can occupy any of it's volunteer or professional positions; whereas in the GSUSA men are forbidden from occupying the position of "primary leader". So a woman can be a Scoutmaster of a Boy Scout Troop (and quite capably, too, as I have personally seen), but a man cannot be the top leader in a Girl Scout Troop. So the GSUSA is much more discriminatory than the BSA, from what I've read.

This is a red herring because NEXT will be GLSEN's "gay"/straight alliance recuiting clubs that will distribute pamphlets to the students.

This is absurd that homosexuals will be able to push this school board around. It makes the membership on the board of dubious quality.

Hey thanks for the information. Very interesting. Their inconsistency reveals a lot. The joke is that most parents would find gay and atheist pamphlets far more offensive that Boy Scout pamphlets. But to protect the few we must offend the many. To save the few from offense, we must downgrade and label the many. But when the many are offended by the few what happens? They must be tolerant and "celebrate diversity." It's a big liberal hoax aimed at stigmatizing traditional moral values and elvating perversity....they will not rest until all the little children of the world are corrupted.

Do these self-annointed 'progressives' really fear discrimination from groups like the BSA? Or are they so baracaded by their own philosophic contradictions that any manifestation of values threatens to render the horrible conviction of judgment on their existence? Prejudice being an irrational hatred of that which is feared, then clearly the subject of prejudice (hatred and intolerance) is the BSA, while objects of intolerance are those groups who would have them aborted from their realm of perception. This begs additional inquiry: Do those organizations that fear and hate the BSA, really have a problem with the value-based organization? Or is it the fear and hatred of actual values that makes them simply despise the reality of the BSA's existence? Do they in fact fear reality?

A world of co-existing contradictions is a delusion. But, remove the acknowledgment of an unwanted contradiction, and existence can be maintain. The delusion, however still exists... as does the status of the deluded. A tree that falls in the forest does so whether or not anyone is around to acknowledge it. And the ideas embraced by the BSA will likewise remain regardless of their presence among the students in Portland public schools even as the Boy Scouts - with Christmas, the Commandments, and the Salvation Army - are burned like books on a proverbial pyre fueled by the victims of liberal tolerance.
