I haven't seen the movie, but listened to an audio version of "Skipping Christmas" on which it was based. Typical secular Christmas story; it was hilarious at times, but very poignant as well.

> Halloween! And it's not the innocent, trick-or-treat Halloween that we remember as kids. It's been co-opted by adults and has taken on a disturbing trend toward the dark side.

Errmmm... given the origins of Halloween, it is, and will long reamin, entirely fluffy-bunny in comparison. Back in The Day, Halloween was a point when people *actually* worried about ghosts and vampires and whatnot. Now you mostly have to worry about diabetic problems, tooth decay and weight gain.

This as well as all of modern American Liberalism is all about Psalm 2:

1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?

2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,

3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.

4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.

5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.

6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.

9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.

10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.

11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

"I know I am going to draw fire with this comment, but there is a whole lot of equivalency here between the people who oppose Christmas and threaten the ability of private enterprises (and even private homes) to display Christian Christmas symbols on their property, and the people who have just scored a 'victory' when the Oklahoma State legislature made it illegal for private employers to set rules as to whether or not to allow weapons on their property."

Unbeknownst to me as the the identity of the poster, I got this far in reading this inane analogy, and looked up and spotted: Luis Gonzalez....

Why am I NOT surprised??

Go tell it on the mountain
Over the hills and far away
Go tell it on the mountain
That Jesus Christ is born

The shepherds all were watching
Over their sheep at night
When a guiding star shone from heaven
And the followed that holy light

Got tell it on the mountain
Over the hills and everywhere
Go tell it on the mountain
That Jesus Christ is born
They found a lovely manger
Where the humble Christ was born
And God sent out salvation
On that blessed Christmas morn

Go tell it on the mountain
Over the hills and everywhere
Go tell it on the mountain
That Jesus Christ is born

He brought with Him forgiveness
He live to show us the way
He came to redeem all creation
And to wash all our sins away

Go tell it on the mountain
Over the hills and everywhere
Go tell it on the mountain
That Jesus Christ is born

"Thanksgiving has become the favorite holiday of choice for a growing number."

In my home, 'Festivus' is gaining in popularity.

And that reminds me, I have I have a LOT of problems with some of you people here!

Two of my neighbors came by on Saturday to let me know they hated the fact that I was putting up my Christmas lights. Now their families were gonna make them put theirs up too. In the spirit of Christmas and with the love of Jesus in my heart, I offered to help them.

If retailers suddenly lost 40-50% of their annual sales

After you prove that, we can address some of the other questions.

What is the basis of your difference of opinion?

There is a vast difference between stores selling quite a bit of their merchandise during a certain period and not selling those items at all. Currently much spending is concentrated, time-wise. If it wasn't, it would be done on a more spread out basis. People forestall purchases to make gifts of them and use the holidays as an excuse to consume what they were already predisposed to consume.

No doubt spending would go down, but not anywhere near the amount to cause the economy to collapse.

In any case, it will happen, if it happens, on a gradual basis. So you can stop worrying.

It's anyone's guess what that means. Or why you felt compelled to mention it.

Where have you been for the last 10 years?

You misunderstood. I have heard of it, I just don't know what it is, other than a comedy routine, nor do I care.

And to answer you question, for the last ten years, I have been trying to improve my mind and my life. I haven't wasted much time on popular culture. It's mindless and occasionally depressing.

Thanks for the unsolicited advice. I'll take it under advisement.

But I have to tell you that it will be difficult to remain the top curmudgeon on this site if I do.

What's truly typical is your inability to add anything but a personal attack to any thread, the second typical thing here is that the attack is leveled at me.

If you ever actually finish reading anything, you may gain insight into something.

It must your stunted attention span.
