Yeah, I know all that stuff, since I helped build two nuclear plants.

"Reactor Coolant" refers to the water that actually flows through the reactor. All the other systems cool other things.

IP's problems were systemic and rooted in the people operating the plant. The leak I referred to was discovered in August and the plant saw no harm in letting it go until the scheduled refuel outage in November. The NRC stepped and had the plant shut down until all of their problems were fixed, including the personality related ones.

So you think posting a few examples wherein mistaken accusations against Islam are shown somehow invalidates the THOUSANDS of TRUE examples of Islam-inspired atrocities that are visited upon the world. Islam has hundreds of thousands of deaths caused explicitly IN ITS NAME every year so those mistakes are a drop of water compared to the ocean.

Given the chaos it causes throughout the world it is appropriate to first wonder when disaster strikes if Islam was behind it. In most cases that is a correct assumption.

Plane goes down with pilot shouting "Allah Akbar" a rational person could conclude Islam was hehind it. Plane blows up in mid-air same thing. Man beheaded in Baghdad, Parlement attacked in India, Moslem villages destroyed in Algeria, Christians killed in the Phillipines, Christians killed in Indonesia, woman sentenced to death in Iran, Nigeria for adultery, Jews attacked in France, moviemaker slaughtered in the Netherlands, trains blown up in Spain killing hundreds, schools attacked in Israel, buses blown up in Israel, Christians ENSLAVED by Moslems in the Sudan.

I could go on indefinitely and never repeat the atrocities which are carried out in Islam's name and NEVER REPUDIATED except in the most roundabout manner. Yet you leap to its defense EVERY TIME. And you have the nerve to tell those who are aware of the violent and vile nature of Islam to get a life?

You really are the sensitive one, aren't you?

You seem to have developed a persecution complex in seeing muslims being blamed for everything---or at least thinking others do so. In this day and age (meaning post 9/11--the acts performed on that date you still have yet to condemn)people will take an extra look at what had usually been 'ordinary' events with a tad extra scrutiny. Of course, the facts will come out and all will be found to have been 'ordinary' events. such as:

The Fermi accident---likely a leaky pump, run of pipe or fitting. Of course, the libs like yourself will scream that Fermi is a ticking time bomb and have to be shut down right away!

Subway problem---a homeless person (turned loose by liberals like yourself) that decided to set a fire to keep warm. A fire that spread to a room containing relay for track switches. Never mind the nutjob homeless fellow could have gone to a hospital or shelter---he just did millions of dollars in damage in exercising his right to be loose on the streets.

The 'beheading' suicide did look suspicious at first, but cooler heads (pun intended) prevailed. It turns out the suicide method was, shall we say, unique.

Actually you are a 'one-note harpist' yourself----screaming "Anti-American" and "bigot" and "liar" to everyone happens to disagree with you. You have whined at least once to the Admin Moderator that one poster be kept from giving their opinion (What happened, you don't like the First Amendment?)

Your justification for such vilification of others(at least in dealing with the cult of islam) is two thousand year old scripture that no one in modern Judaism or Christianity ever pays any attention to---except you, of course. That and you seeming diagreement with everyone here except a choice few.

You just think that everyone is going to blame muslims for everything--so you can go crying to others about the "racists" that 'inhabit' Free Republic. This would be part of the DUmmies (and your?) grand plan to shut the site down, wouldn't it troll? Your plan is coming to the fore.

That said, why don't you take your racist, baiting left-wing tactics back to the Democratic Underground where they belong?

Yes, I hear that it was the secondary loop----just the usual MSM blowing it out of proportion.

As for the BWR vs PWR--ANY steam that goes to the turbine or ancillary machiner is not radioactive.

Or at least it isn't supposed to be ;-)

BTW, has anyone accounted for Homer Simpsons whereabouts?

Good information there. Sounds like they had a pipe break or seal failure in some equipment cooling systems, i.e., tertiary systems isolated from the NSSS. Somehow, the blowdown found it's way to the drywell sump. Hopefully, that will simply getting things back online.

My first thought was a recirc pump seal or maybe a letdown line break. Those would have been more problematic. But with a 30,000 gpm ECCS injection I doubt if 75 gpm would have led to any fuel damage.

I know. On Fox's "24" tonight, the terrorists made off with an override key to all of our nuclear power plants.

That damn overide key again. Man, the terrorists always figure out how to snatch that. You figure by now, the good guys would have run down to Ace hardware and had a duplicate made.

The simple fact that there is any type of leak at a facility like that should have folks worried.

The fact that a technical non-event gathers this kind of publicity should instead give you comfort. The levels of regulation and scrutiny theses facilities operate under is like no other industry.

Your chances of death or injury from any nuclear facility are infinitesimal compared to other industrial risks we take for granted. Recall the chlorine spill down south a few weeks ago? That's the kind of stuff you should worry about.

The systems are designed to contain minor leaks such as this; 75GPM is much less than a deep-well pump for agricultural use produced by a 2-3HP electric motor.

All such incidents are required to be reported and promulgated.

Fear is a fast-growth industry lately.

You just wroteYou religious bigots sure are quick - three minutes in this case - to accuse Islam of causing this nuke plant incident.

With no knowledge of what had occured, what was going on, the race was on to blame Muslims for this incident.

I don't know where you got the 3 minutes, but the Thread began at 12:35 AM, and the first posting that "blamed Islam" was at 9:02 AM. In my country, that's 8 hours and 27 minutes, and look who made the statement:

Trollus Geekus Michiganus:

You really need to get a clue---and a life.

YOU are the bigot---you have mangaged to slander every poster that has the SLIGHTEST disgreement with you.

You have misquoted posters, you have tried (without success) to twist the words of posters into some perverted game of "bigotry" against islam. Is this part of the plot to have FR shut down as a 'hate' site? You are in the wrong place for that, buddy---try going back to DU!

You have tried, again without success, to defame Judaism and Christianity with quotes form the bible that have long been ignored by the above faiths.

YOU have called other posters liars--without any proof whatsoever. You also lack the guts, I'll bet, to call others a liar to their face as well!

You have diminished any and all threads you have posted to by your above attacks and ill-conceived logic; NONE of which is remotely Conservative.

An for some reason, despite REAPEATED requests, you STILL have NOT CONDEMNED the actions of the islamofascist terrorists of September 11th 2001. Could it be that you just might be sympathetic to them?

In short--you act like the TROLL that you are.

I have a better bit of advice for your blood pressure---go back to DU and your like-minded friends!

He's been here for 5 yrs. He's not a troll.
And regarding bigotry toward muslims on this forum,

"There is not a single conservative of influence and responsiblitly ANYWHERE ... in politics, business or the media ... who would ever let themselves be associated with this kind of ugly stuff."

"Religious bigotry against Muslims is no more acceptable in the conservative movement or on a conservative web site, than anti-black racism or anti-Semitism. Your brand of trash talk has be specifically condemned by the President and every conservative publication and commentator."

" There is no place in the Conservative movement for bigots, anti-Semites and racists. Blacks, Jews, Muslims, Hispanics are not only welcome in the conservative movement, but they are to be sought out and encouraged to join our movement.

For precisely the same reason that William F. Buckley and the National Review drew a bright line between Conservatism and prejudice; the Free Republic, as one of the most visible torch bearers for today’s conservative movement, must take a stance against anti-Muslim bigotry on its pages.

If you are posting hateful and vicious anti-Muslim remarks then you are in direct opposition to the beliefs of William F. Buckley, Ronald Reagan, our president and virtually every conservative writer commentator and thinker of note and you are indirectly undermining our cause."

Some quotes from a few FReepers who are also sick of the muslim bigotry on FR.

Can you identify who the quotes are from and what threads they are from so we can understand the context? And decide for ourselves concerning the credentials of the speaker.

Being here for 5 years does not give him a free pass, you have heard of Quisling, haven't you?

As for the alleged Bigotry towards Muslims, you need to step back and look at the context of those comments as well, some are real, many are facetious.

Maybe if you and others tried to understand that the roots of the alleged Bigotry come from the hearts of MANY people who have been adversely affected by the actions of the Islamofascists, and that they have a right to be angry at all Muslims, but it is all talk, they are not going to act on it.

It is free speech, protected speech as long as they are not hurting anyone physically by it. If it is hurting some feelings, don't read it, move to another thread, stay quiet. If you choose to speak out, prepare to be challenged, because there are a lot of Americans who equate defending Islam, with defending Nazis.

Right or wrong, it's how they feel, and it's their right to feel this way, check the 1st amendment.

In a BWR, like Fermi, there is no secondary loop. You're thinking of the condensers which cool the steam after it pases through the turbine. That happens in both PWRs and BWRs. In a BWR the steam goes directly from the reactor to the turbine. In a PWR design the steam from the reactor goes to a steam generator which flashes water on the secondary side to steam which then drives the turbine. You can have different amounts of loops with a PWR but they all go to steam generators which are the interface with the secondary side.

Even if you had a reactor coolant leak, it wouldn't be that big of a deal. The water gets pumped to the radwaste treatment system and processed. The leak at Fermi was from a support system that did not contain reactor coolant.
