What I want to do is start rounding these folks up and shipping them back to whatever godforsaken country they came from. Unless we are willing to do that, the problem will not go away.

Unfortunately the President has consistently shown weakness on border issues, and the story is probably true. I wouldn't mind even a super-liberal paper like the Chronicle highlighting this, as most of the MSM doesn't give a rat's backside for the border issues and actually wishes the floodgates would open.
Not that I wouldn't mind if someone did prove the story wasn't true... I'd like to believe the President stands with us here.

Well if the current immigration laws were enforced (mainly the fines for employers of illegals) and the federal/state benefits taken away, they would have no reason to come in the first place. That and an effective border security should do the trick.

the only duty expressly stated in the constitution is that the federal is responsible for the nations security. not education, not grants to religious institutions aor entitlements.
the president is not being responsible. before i get flamed, i should state i'm a libertarian and i don't appreciate the weird discretionary spending not connected to keeping us safe.
We've already got more border intruders than the agents can handle. All the high tech equipment will do is show that we have even more border intruders and that we still don't have enough agents to intercept and process all of them. Troops on the border is the answer until things slow down.

You are absolutely correct.
Just look at the 10 million dollar UAV program for the Border Patrol. The UAV's detected over 800,000 illegal aliens crossing the borders, but they BP only apprehended a little over 2,000 of those.

Actually, the budget increases funding to support an additional 210 border patrol agents. As with all government programs, this "cut" is based on a projected future level, not an actual current level.
The New World Order, sometimes called "Multicultural Diversification", can be extrapolated into "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need."
In reality, the budget calls for reducing the BP by 280 in 2005.
The BP has an attrition rate of approximately 500 Agents each year. So if you hire 210 Agents, you are reducing the BP's manpower by 280.
We are about to spend 37 million dollars to make the BP smaller.
there are other programs to make cuts. please don't mess with the nation's security.

The border problem is simple Bush and other RINOs try to confuse the real answer so that most Americans are dumbfounded and go along with their lame excuse for us being helpless to stop illegals. Just three simple things and illegals will not only not come here they will leave
1) Take away all the benefits (no federal no state...nohting)
2) Penalize employers with substantial fines and make it stick - need to be aggressive
3) Optional if 1 $ 2 are enforced - Build a wall (approx 8mill/mile) very cheap when you consider the cost of agents and support equipment costs per year. This is a one time expense.
All are low technology and could be in place within 6 mos (except for wall). Illegals would be gone in a year. Taxes would be reduced, hospitals better, schools better, crime reduced, insurance premiums reduced, better wages, etc.....
