ENEMY PROFESSOR (No. 13) - Bonnie Rosecliff

A FReeper sent me a note today indicating that the RATS playing underground are not very happy with this series. He told me that one of them wants to egg my house. That sounds about like the RATS. Luann Wright is doing a great service with her site, NoIndoctrination.org.

Record for NoIndoctrination.org entry #399.

San Diego Mesa College Jun. 5, 2004
  http://www.sandiegomesacollege.net CA
Course: English 208: Introduction to Literature
Course Catalog Description: This course provides an inquiry into the basic nature of literature and is designed for students with a general interest as well as for those majoring in the field. Students read and analyze representative literary works in fiction, non-fiction, poetry and drama from various cultures and periods, applying practical critical techniques in essays, reports, and exams. (FT) Transfer Credit: CSU and/or private coll/univ.; UC.

  Professor: Bonnie Rosecliff
  Required? Yes, for all students
  Lecture Bias: Excessive
Comments: She would sometimes be good and stay on topic; but this is a woman who turned The Tempest into a feminist study. (The female character is early feminism because she proposes to Ferdinand, and not the other way around.) Why in all the great themes to talk about in Shakespeare, she brings up that! Her off-topic rants sometimes sprang from the agenda stories we were reading, but at other times they didn't have anything to do with the subject matter. She was constantly bitching about how it was a masculine world and women were not in the history books enough etc... She also defended communism at one point. Oh, and the morning that the news came out that the soldiers in Iraq had mistreated prisoners...she had a field-day and talked about how we shouldn't be over there and slammed Bush. She talked about the Iraqi war quite often. She constantly was telling us how evil Bush was and how our troops are doing evil things. She ought to have left politics out of the course all together and focus on literature. [Note from NoIndoctrination.org: The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges adopted the AAUP 1940 statement of Principles of Academic Freedom", Sections a, b, and c (http://www.academicsenate.cc.ca.us/Publications/Papers/Tenure.htm_). Part b states, "Teachers are entitled to freedom in the classroom in discussing their subject, but they should be careful not to introduce into their teaching controversial matter which has no relation to their subject." ]
  Discussion Bias: Excessive
Comments: If students brought up opposing views, they could be subjected to ridicule, hostility, and/or intimidation. One time we got into a huge class argument about feminism in culture. Of course I was one of the only or few that suggested that masculinization (I was verbally beaten up for my choice of words as well) of women isn't appropriate and that children are suffering because they are in day-care. Rosecliff flipped, called me a "war monger" because I'm Republican. One lady had a husband in Iraq, and she was chased away after the teacher started saying that the troops were evil because of what they were doing in Iraq. Honestly, had I been anyone else (I stuck with it to the end, even though I know my grade is going to plummet), I would have left too. I know I was the only remotely conservative one in there at the end. Even liberals were saying she was out of line (a guy that had just worn a dumb and dumber Bush and Bush t-shirt stood up to her about her feminist agenda). Ten students remained til the end of her class (she had 40 to start). That should say something.

  Readings Bias: Excessive
Comments: Borarad's "Legacies" was the book for our course. The highlight was Poe and Shakespeare...which we got one example of each. The vast majority of what she seemed to choose for us to read was very agenda-related in some way. A lot of anti-war, anti-Vietnam, "minority" power, and feminist essays and stories were required. A good 70% of the literature was biased -- or she tied it into one of those categories.
General Comments: What happened to Moby Dick, Les Miserables, Jane Eyre, Huckleberry Finn, King Arthur (Le Morte d'Arthur), and all those beautiful pieces of literature? They are just becoming bookends to anti-war and feminist essays, or blame the evil white man, or things that I don't think are appropriate as Eng. Lit. I'm getting a little tired of being blamed for slavery even though my ancestors fought on the Union side! It was always an indoctrination. And yes, not only did she want us to discuss these stories, but I think she wanted us to agree with her. She hated me because I stood up to her. Maybe it was just because my good parents introduced me to a wealth of knowledge, fantasy, classic good vs. evil literature that will survive 'til the end of time, and imagination; most children today don't get any of this. My family are California taxpayers. When I sign up for Eng. Lit., I want to read literature that is not all there to indoctrinate.

I noticed going through them all that there are none from the University of Michigan, Michigan State, Detroit University or where most of the instructors, assistant professors, and full professors are card carrying CPUSA members -- Wayne State University.

Can't tell you anything reliable on Arizona State or Univiersity of Arizona or Northern Arizona University. Come next fall I may be able to tell you something on NAU since my daugther will be enrolled there and a requirement that I gave her is that she HAS TO join the NAU Young Republican's Club.

I'll tell you about Arizona State. After watching the Inauguration from the Green Zone (very far away), I spent three hours arguing with the protestors in the streets. I had about a 15-minute discussion with a nitwit from Arizona State who believes we are in Iraq to force them to become Christians. When I cited the Shinto and Buddhist experience in Japan and pointed out that they are doing just fine even though we vanquished Japan, he didn't want to talk about that. His parents should be using their money to buy a motor home so they can travel the country and enjoy their golden years. They are thowing it down a toilet paying for his education.

With a son who graduated from ASU College of Engineering I can assure you the ASU twit you talked to was not in the College of Engineering but, the College of LIBERAL Arts. When my son was there he said the the LIBERAL Arts types were the only ones that had the time to NOT study to do that sort of crap.

I have a history teacher like this.

The worst thing of it is though, is that he is wrong all the time. If he had a point, it would be somewhat bearable maybe insightful. But everything he says is a half truth, a lie, or just some New York Times piece of Bias.

You have to know your Politics inside and out to get into a discussion with me. I am completely capable of ripping him and his warped way of thinking apart.

Today I called him out on a few things. But I really want that A, can't do it again.

My history prof.

Basically said that Janice Joplin's death was highly suspiciouse and that it was probably the US government. And It was kind of funny that all those other anti Vietnam songwriters died of drug overdoses.

The DUnderheads are mostly not kids. Most of them are aging hippies who think the Great Depression is still here and minorities and women are still property.

This is typical of posts there and is from a current thread on Rumsfeld.

[WHY aren't the American people having a revolution??? Why are there no significant protests? Are we being given some drug in something that makes everyone passive as hell? God, I ache for the good ole days of the 50's, 60's,...My husband said tonight, "I'm glad I'm old so I don't have to see what's coming"....made me sad.]--DUnderhead Feb 10, '05
