Osage County History: Reign of Terror

The Reign of Terror - The most serious outbreak of crime in Oklahoma history was the so-called Reign of Terror at the height of the Osage oil boom during the 1920s. Beginning in 1921, at least two dozen Osages were murdered by gunfire, stabbing, poisoning or explosives, but the number may have greatly exceeded that as there were many other Osage deaths that occurred under suspicious circumstances.

During the boom, oil royalty and lease money that went through the tribe to individual headright owners made the Osages the richest people per capita in the world. The headrights that topped out at more than $12,000 in a single year would have a buying power today of several hundred thousand dollars. Since a family often had more than one headright, the amount of money involved was stupendous. Wild spending was a trait of people suddenly rich. One woman in a single day spent more than $40,000 for clothing, jewelry, furnishings and land in Florida. Automobile agencies sold expensive cars to Indians who had discovered an aversion to walking; Osage County reportedly had the largest number of Pierce Arrow autos in the nation. An Osage historian wrote, "Grand pianos often stood out on the lawns year around; priceless china and silverware sat on shelves while the Indians ate with their fingers. . . . expensive vases were used to keep vegetables in or as corn bins." With this kind of money acting as a lure, human coyotes soon surfaced. William K. Hale, an Osage County rancher and banker, was the ringleader of a scheme to gain control of headrights by murder or insuring Osages with himself as beneficiary and then having them killed. He, his nephew Earnest Burkhart and a cowhand named John Ramsey were sentenced to prison in 1926 after a long legal struggle, but others may have been involved. It was one of the first big cases of the fledgling FBI. A state investigator named Luther Bishop was a key to cracking the case; he was murdered in his Oklahoma City home in December 1926 and the crime was never solved.

"Earnest Burkhart and a cowhand named John Ramsey were sentenced to prison in 1926 after a long legal struggle."

Please note that the man who killed a lot of these Indians was named John Ramsey.

Between 1973 and 1976, about 70 AIM members on Pine Ridge were killed by vigilantes, some of whom called themselves GOONS (Guardians of Oglala Nation) and aligned themselves with the FBI, Churchill says. In only one case were there indictments.
http://carcopy.blogspot.com/2005/02/denver-post-january-18-1987.html

This is the big lie he made up based on what John Ramsey did in the Osage Indian Murders. This whole idea that there were murders made to look like accidents/natural causes.

He is so obsessed with the FBI and this Osage case was the first big case the FBI had.

Here is the infamous essay by Churchill.
He uses the word "hence" twice.

http://www.noparolepeltier.com/churchill.html
Ward Churchill uses the word "hence" twice in this article, too. One time he uses it to mean "ago" and another time to mean "therefore." He really likes this word.

"First of all, SAC Domin seems completely unaware that the Bureau itself confirmed its pattern of not investigating the murders of AIM people on Pine Ridge a quarter-century hence [ago], while the deaths were still occurring."

"Hence [therefore], Domin's presentation misrepresents 14 of 57 allegations before the "accounting" even begins."

When the experts looked at the language of the JonBenet ransom note, they noted the use of "hence" was unusual, although the person who analysed the note believed the Ramsey's wrote it. The note also attacks the FBI and police.

Ward Churchill can sure dish it out. Can he take it?

Ward Churchill says the FBI are terrorists. I say Ward Churchill is a terrorist.

Developing.....

Here Ward Churchill accuses the FBI of being terrorists:

"The murders [at Pine Ridge] occurred amidst a concerted campaign of repression conducted by the FBI against the American Indian Movement on Pine Ridge during the mid-70s, that the 57 victims consist almost entirely of AIM members and supporters (or their children), and that the perpetrators, where they've been identified, consist primarily of known members of the so-called GOON Squad (or GOONs; the self-proclaimed "Guardians of the Oglala Nation," an FBI-alligned paramilitary organization active on the reservation during the period). A major contention of those involved in preparing and disseminating the list to which the FBI report supposedly responds is that he killings often amounted not simply to murders, but to a pattern of officially sponsored terrorism." http://www.noparolepeltier.com/churchill.html

Ward Churchill can sure dish it out. Can he take it? Ward Churchill says the FBI are terrorists. I say Ward Churchill is a terrorist.

I have already compared Churchill's themes and language about Pine Ridge to the FBI Osage Indian Murders file (Reign of Terror/mysterious deaths).
The book Osage Indian Murders by Lawrence Hogan is easier to follow than this PDF file. This FBI file is, in my opinion, the focus of Churchill's obsessive hate. He cannibalizes this document and reworks it into his own sick mythology.

I have already explained that the name John Ramsey (Osage Indian killer) and SBTC (http://www.sbtc.net /Mount Rushmore Internet) may be symbolic for the killer; they appear to be the "signatures" for some AIM psychopath.

Experts also need to compare Churchill's articles (including his vile "Roosting Chickens" article) with the JonBenet ransom note.

http://orlandodirectaction.us/churchill.html (Churchill on Roosting Chickens--hereafter RC)
http://www.noparolepeltier.com/churchill.html (Churchill dueling with FBI about Pine Ridge--hereafter PR)
http://www.statementanalysis.com/ramseynote/ (Ransom note--hereafter RN)

When I read Churchill's writings and the JonBenet ransom note, I see similarities in theme, style, grammar, and structure. Here are some things FBI profilers might look at:

There is the vicious, arrogant dominating "logic" of the psychopath who thinks he is an agent of historical retribution
There is the hatred of America
There is the claim of being from another culture (rn--"a small foreign faction" is possibly an allusion to the factionalized AIM)
There is the hatred of the police/FBI/CIA and the compulsion to spar with and outsmart them (be sure you read how he rips into the FBI and CIA in "Roosting Chickens." Incredible.)
There is the use of the "scholarly" subjunctive adverb "hence" (rn, rc, pr)
There is the use of parallel structures to drive home a point.(rn--"she dies...she dies...she dies"/rc--"when you push people around, some people push back." As they should. As they must. And as they undoubtedly will. There is justice in such symmetry.")
There are the "orders" about what one has to do to avoid punishment
There is the claim that all the burden for avoiding getting killed depends on the victim's ability to listen to the writer's orders.

i can see the movie scripts churning out:

churchill's a sick puppy.

he's a white male that hates whites and white females, and like many fictional characters takes on a persona to rid the world of this "evil".

he's like stalin. stalin, a georgian, read a comic book and grew to hate his russian school masters. but he identified with his russian masters and became "russian", ruthlessly killing georgians, and others.

his georgian son came to moscow to meet and be with his dad, but stalin sent him to the front where he was captured by the nazi's, and killed if i remember correctly.

his son represented the georgian self that he could not tolerate.

i read this in a psychohistory of stalin 20 years ago. bit fuzzy.
