I don't mean politics. The whole concept is to create a functioning member of soceity, not "a really smart kid". I'll stop before I start sounding like a pretentious Pink Floyd song.

There is a quantum social leap between elementary and middle school, almost regardless of neighborhood. Middle school marks puberty and domination of determination of an individual student's behavior by his or her peer group rather than by his or her family.

Thought about it and mentioned it, and was attacked in another thread for not "fleeing" by some of the posters here.

Great idea Gabz. Stick around and fight the good fight instead of succumbing to "white flight".

Too bad your friends don't agree with us.

Seems that we see eye to eye on at least one principle.

"Leaving solves the problem in short order. It does require sacrifice on the parents part, but until there is a large enough movement, it remains the only effective and sensible choice in my opinion."

Leaving solves no problem, it just pushes it onto someone else. The reason our urban schools are in the state they are in, is because of the white flight that took place in 70's, 80's and 90's.

All that is left is an apathetic bunch of parents, both working, who couldn't give a rats ass about their children. Or in other cases, no working parents.

For this very reason, these dysfunctional families are now the majority in urban areas, not the minority as it once was.

Because the parents don't care, and because the children have no greater aspiration other than to play basketball or be a professional rap artist, these schools provide the perfect haven for educators who don't' give a damn.

It is in these environments, that they prosper, securing tenure and benefits packages to rival that of the private sector.

There are very few of us left to fight the good fight here. Most have left because they had neither the backbone, the self dignity, or were too consumed by the "me me me" generation to care what they left behind in their wake.

The only effective means to change a corrupt system, is to get involved and create dialog. Thank God for the burgeoning blogs like this one, where the unions can't squelch the stink that they have created.

Fleeing is for the French. Real Americans dig in their heels and roll up their sleeves.

Its no wonder we now have a nation of children who are more concerned about their playstation than they are at actually winning a real fight. Its the way they were raised.

The purpose of public schools has never been to educate. It's to indoctrinate the youth into being good little agents of the state when the time comes to go to war / pay taxes, etc.
If you want your kids to learn how to think for themselves, send them to a school run by the Jesuits.

But be careful lest they learn too well -- I wouldn't be the atheist I am today if not for the brothers who taught me to question all authority, from the top on down.

I don't guess you consider dead bodies an option.

...All that is left is an apathetic bunch of parents, both working, who couldn't give a rats ass about their children...

That does not describe me or my wife accuratly.

...Its no wonder we now have a nation of children who are more concerned about their playstation than they are at actually winning a real fight...

Fighting is prohibited at public school. So is self defense.

...Fleeing is for the French. Real Americans dig in their heels and roll up their sleeves...

Real, acutal Americans, have known when and how to fight. They have sometimes seemingly retreated when it was to their advantage.

...There are very few of us left to fight the good fight here...

Your'e wrong. We just don't agree on the most effective way to fight.

I don't guess you consider dead bodies an option.

---I don't see the relationship, but our school has had shootings too, we are in Chicago.

...All that is left is an apathetic bunch of parents, both working, who couldn't give a rats ass about their children...

That does not describe me or my wife accuratly.

---wasn't describing anyone in particular, was describing most of the parents in my own particular school district, and that of most urban school districts

...Its no wonder we now have a nation of children who are more concerned about their playstation than they are at actually winning a real fight...

Fighting is prohibited at public school. So is self defense.

-------No one is talking about violence. Were talking about fighting to take back our schools from the unions and the politicans.

My kids know I won't back down from the school board, I won't pick up and run away.

Real, acutal Americans, have known when and how to fight. They have sometimes seemingly retreated when it was to their advantage.

---A retreat means you intend to return to the battlefield. Those who have engaged in white flight, have no plans to return to the districts that they fled, with the rare exception.

I'll speak out on most public school forums, if you have need to have me removed from FR, then please take it up with an admin.

Free speech works both ways, with those ideas you agree with, and those you don't.

It seems we even have common ground or agreement on some issues, therefore, if your attitude towards me is personal, that is another matter.

This is a news forum, I'm not here to make friends and chat about non-conservative, unrelated events. I read about those news articles that affect me, those that I am interested in, and I offer a conservative voice on said threads, that pertains to the subject.

If my replies offend you, again, I implore you to appeal to an admin, while refraining from personally attacking me. I allowed it to happen before, and I responded in an unprofessional and embarrassing matter. If I am attacked again, I will respond only to the Admins.
