Jeb must act NOW, and he can, says Keyes Governor has 'supreme executive power'

March 25, 2005 RenewAmerica staff

Thursday, Alan Keyes appeared on MSNBC's Scarborough Country with Joe Scarborough, and on Joseph Farah's national radio show, and declared that Gov. Jeb Bush not only possesses the "supreme executive authority in the state," but must act now to save Terri Schiavo.

When asked if Gov. Bush has done enough to help the disabled woman, Keyes said, "Of course not. He hasn't done anything. She is being starved to death!"

An innocent woman is being starved to death by order of the state, and to oppose that is in some way "unintellectual"?

Please, tell me more.

Ever notice how all the negative powers of the press and
public opinion are marshalled against Dr.Alan Keyes every
time he shows up?He has been called a loose canon. The media
danced about and marshalled to defeat him on the State level
and did not promote him-they exulted when his daughter went public to shame him by her reprobate choice of lifestyle.Annd I notice EVERY GOOD AND MORAL PUBLIC FIGURE
IS TREATED THUS.We have a society and soapbox that is
determined to pull everyone down into the freakin'crabbucket
with the rest of the mindless captives.

And because nobody will listen-and prefers to not consider what he says -lest they be moved to do something themself
What does it matter?

The fact that Judge Greer is legally blind is reminicent to me of the passage in Isaiah where the Lord tells the prophet to preach to a people who will not hear and who are blind.

Lately there seems to be far too much "its Bush's fault".

Its a fact. Do to an odd set of circumstances the only executive authority in the Shiavo case are the two Bush brothers; and, neither one has chosen to use their authority. They have begged the courts to take action; they have begged the legislature to take action; but, neither has had the conviction to use the constitutional authority vested in their own office to provide a remedy.

What I fault Jeb Bush for is allowing to go apparently unchallenged a blatently illegal and in your face order by Judge Greer that Terri cannot be given water or food by mouth as Terri's parents requested. That is euthanasia and is not permitted under Florida law. On this order at least the Shindler's have the law on their side -- giving water by mouth is not in any shape, fashion or form artificial life support as mentioned in the Florida statute. Any outcome of a trial of drinking, even death by choking, is preferable to what is going on now.

Why are the Shindlers and more importantly Governor Jeb Bush allowing this illegal order, which constitutes arbitrary rule by judicial fiat, to go unchallenged? All our elected officials are obligated by their oaths of office to do everything within their power to protect our constitutional rights and to prevent the usurpation of illegal and arbitrary authority by the judiciary. Without the willingness to do that we effectively live in a judicial thugocracy.

IMO both Jeb,and bubba W. have demonstrated that they serve only at th ewim and will of the extra-Constituional
authorities-i.e. the U.N.and the Judiciary. They posture
and pose-but when nit come to grit neither will act against
either competing authority. Thus we nolonger have that system of government established. Had Jeb exercised the powers of his Office he simply would have replied to Judge
Greer's order to remove th efeeding tube by saying let him
enforce it.That he did not sugggests Jeb is talk without substance?Though I like the man he is a weak leader.

I vigorously challenge your assertion that Jeb has kept his oath of office.

Where in his oath of office did he say he would hand responsibility for legislating to the judiciary?

Florida could save a fortune by sacking the Governor and legislators. Just keep the judges. They're running the show, anyway.

You are an honest person because you characterized your statement as an opinion and not a fact.

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

Rudyard Kipling-

Why is it assumed that the president and governor are "not acting" for lack of courage? Perhaps they are acting in accord with THEIR convictions.

There is no happy ending to this case. It's my opinion a good deal of the fault lies with the legal advice Terri's family has received.

Your policy obviously also includes never letting the facts get in the way of a good story. Ever considered journalism as a career?

"It's my opinion a good deal of the fault lies with the legal advice Terri's family has received."

I agree here too. This shouldve from the begining been argued from a custody issue. As a general rule in custody evaluations psychological tests are required and highly accurate. I believe her HINO wouldve clearly come out as anti social, among other things. It couldve greatly increased thier chances of showing he was not credible, or capable of putting her needs above his own.

There are so many avenues the attnys couldve taken. I dont know what they were thinking??

Well Ive been up since 330am getting hubby off to work. Brain is melting......

Happy debating!
