If you see that documentary about her, Fleiss treated her women better than a lot of business owners I've known treated their employees, vehicles, facilities, etc. A lot of people consider her a hero. Her girls were basically contractors, and she did more time than certain California street pimps did, all for the horrfying crime of introducing women who wanted to sell their bodies to men who were interested in buying.

Odd that her client list was sealed by court order. You think maybe there were some politicians' names in there?

In contraband, whether drugs, guns, African art or foie gras, both buyer and seller want to take part in the transaction, therefore there is no victim to report a crime. Prostitution falls into this category, both the prostitute and john want the transaction to take place.

Apples and oranges. In the former, both parties are taking part willingly. In the latter, the prostitute's drug habit is pushing her to turn tricks. If she didn't have the habit, she wouldn't need the money, therefore would be less likely to be selling her body to earn the money needed for the drugs. I would venture a guess that many of these girls do not WANT to be in prostitution, but find there's no other way to be a full time addict and a full time employee.

The other weekend I helped a women on Meth who had abandon her children over the drug. I recall reading an article stating how big of a problem this is (women abandoning kids), especially out west.

I tend to have libertarian views on drugs, but some of the harder ones are hard to swallow as it is really almost a form of suicide.

Yet the governmental war on drugs forces a billion dollar industry to go underground and criminalize, resulting in horrific violence and a degredation of morality. Similar to the effects of prohibition.

I think that the current system is such a failure that it is better to err on the side of liberty.

But still, it would warm my heart to see a few of those meth dealers swinging from some trees.

Those libertarians really have to come up with some 'wizzy' marketing to overcome this...

No. People that believe simply making things illegal makes things better have to defend themselves.

Afterall, you already have what you want. Look at what you get. This is your system in operation.

Your "big brother" government philosophy gets women beaten.

Good work.

"It's the hard drugs not the prostituion thats destroying these women."

What future groom and misfortunate baby do you expect to pass through a thoroughly diseased and torn-up vagina? Would you or your newborn want to?

There are other victims besides the woman, even if she miraculously cleans herself up.

Serves them right - whenever seeing a lady of the evening, it is incumbent on the gentleman to use an assumed name. 'Rocco' is one I would use (if I did that sort of thing). ;-)

So, you would happily marry one of her girls or aspire for your daughter to work a similar job or your son to be supported by one of these girls??

That's what I tend to think but in the case of meth users, giving them 9 months in the slammer to detox just may save their lives. It takes about that long to come out of the fog and begin to regret the things they've done to get that point.

That was my daughter's personal experience, anyway.

America is one of the only industrialized nations that still criminalize prostitution, or throw pot smokers in jail for that matter. Pot is overrated and used as a boogieman for many unrelated social ills but I won't get into that.....
Prostitution, why is it even illegal? What business does the government have inside the bedroom between consenting adults? Seriously. I thought conservatives were all about smaller less intrusive government. I guess not.
Jesus worshiping makes conservatives sell out their small government values, and this is illustrated in the wacky prostitution laws present in 49 states.

"It wasn't the system, it was the meth. We should have made meth illegal so that this wouldn't have happened to her. Maybe we should make prostitution illegal too."

As guns don't commit crime, we don't punish guns but the criminals who use them.

And we don't lock up drugs, but drug users and trafficers. Not enough of them.

You make some good points. However, what your saying regarding prostituion might just be symptomatic of 'sluts' in general (if drugs are not involved). This is a character and a moral issue of which government needs to stay out of.

If prostitution was legalized I don't think you need government regulations to make it healthy. I think even the dirtiest scumbag would pay a few bucks more to visit someplace that tested their girls regularly and required protections to be used.

I agree with most of what you said about pot, except that I think private citizens should donate to run the comericals not the government. I know I would.

I bet if drugs were legalized we would see a 10,000% drop in violent crime here in the US and a stabalization and drop in corruption in the South American continent.

Prostitution itself did not do this to a person. Nor would burglary, larceny or robbery. This is the effects of chemical dependency. Like many other illegal methods of turning a quick buck, prostitution is a mode of getting the drugs.

Yes, hookers are often victims of physical violence and sexual assault. So are drug using women who hang with crooks of other persuasions.
