He cared about worker exploitation that takes place in many African nations and other under-developed areas of the world.

Right. Least we forget, this is a man who came to the papacy from Communist-controlled Poland. He had seen over his whole life how the "workers' paradise" really worked.

This person sees what he wants and quotes the Pope out of context. You can make any case in this way.
China is a perfect example of the unbridled capitalism and unrestrained exploitation of resources.
The Pope wanted reconciliation of religions rather than confrontation. He did not choose islam over Christianity or Judaism or support palestine over Israel.
Notice that the blogger didn't refer to the Pope's opposition to abortion, homosexuality and gay marriage.

He symbolically blessed the Palestinian claim that Jerusalem is the eternal capital of the Palestinian people.

My Bible says the Jews are the chosen people of God...Israel, including Jerusalem, was given to the Jews as an inheritance...

Agreeing with the Arabs that Jerusalem is the eternal capital of the Arabs is not only wrong, it will only incite more terrorism...So one has to wonder what is the Pope's intention here???

Don't know, you'd have to pose that question to the rocket scientist who made the assertion, not me.

Where did the Pope say this?

Ok. I see and agree with you.
The pope is not infallible in politics and can err as we all do. In attempting to promote peace as he saw best at the time, he seemed willing to split the baby. Some days it takes a Solomon.

Who has lead you to believe that the Pope is Infallible or sinless?? Only an IGNORANT person would believe such a thing.

The Pope's Decrees are Infallible...not the Pope. And NO ONE is sinless except for Jesus and the Virgin Mary.

What religion are you, if I might ask?

I agree that Jesus was like us in all ways but sin. However, I don't understand the bit about Mary. Doesn't the Bible say that we all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God? (Romans 3:23). I've read several translations, but never found one that says that we all, but Mary, have sinned.

Pope John Paul did not mince his words - he never conceded that Islam was on an equal plane as Catholicism - only that discussion should occur. This author was deceptive with his quotations on that issue, as well as in any implication that the Pope believed Islam stood with rights equal to Judaism as far as Jerusalem is concerned.

Mary was a sinner who was saved by grace in the same manner of any sinner who trusts Jesus Christ for salvation.

She was a godly woman, but not sinless, huge difference.

'And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,
And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.'

Luke 1:446-47

If she was sinless why does she need a savior. I am Catholic by the way, not a Mary worshiper or a believer in Mary to mediate between man and Christ.

This should not suprise. The author is Juan Cole, a semi-famous (at home) tenured professor of something or other noted for his self-promoting fatuous fatwas.

More correctly, I should have said china's misuse of unbridled capitalism. It obviousley is not capitalism by strict definition. The means of production and distribution are owned by the state or paper owners.
Workers are abused or killed with no recourse. Slave labor and prison are common. Natural resources are exploited without regard for environmental concerns and pollution is unrestricted.

Sorry....Mary was sinless...hence Mary's Immaculate Conception, which means she had NO SIN (Original Sin) on her soul.

This is a BIG Doctrine in the Roman Catholic Church, so I am doubting that you are a ROMAN Catholic.

P.s. Catholics do not WORSHIP Mary.....only the Trinity is Worshipped.

It's Catholic Doctrine that Mary was conceived without Original Sin on her soul (Immaculate Conception) so as to be the Mother of God. If one really thinks about it and ponders it ,it is the only way that makes sense. We also believe that Mary was ASSUMED into heaven, Body and Soul because she was the sinless Mother of God.
