Fixing immigration fairly
The Boston Globe ^ | April 12, 2005 | Ali Noorani

Posted on 04/12/2005 4:05:42 AM PDT by Boston Blackie

Invoking symbols ranging from the Revolutionary War to Martin Luther King Jr., armed vigilantes are patrolling a segment of the Arizona-Mexico border and taking the enforcement of immigration law into their own hands. While they claim only to offer support to the Border Patrol, the Mexican government is on edge, human rights activists have flooded the area, and President Bush has distanced himself from the effort.

If you want to ignore reality, its ok.

The poll and the writer's view are based on the guest worker being a solution to the problem of illegals.

More specifically, 60% of freepers favor converting the illegals into guest workers.

1. Seal the border between Ports of Entry
2. Come up with a workable level of annual work permits
3. Make all applicants for the new permits apply from outside the US

Problem solved.

Except for the millions who are already here.

4. Deport illegal aliens.

The writer for the Boston Globe is so far out of touch with reality it is frightening.

Agreed.

The Boston Globe doesn't get it ~ illegal, is illegal, is illegal ~ what's so hard to understand!

When we break the law, we get busted ~ when foreign citizens break the law, they get deified!

Polls are irrelevant!

Be Ever Vigilant!

I would be willing to bet a sizable amount that he votes for Kennedy. Any takers? No? Didn't think so :)

I don't know anyone in Mass who doesn't vote for Ted.

President Bush, Senators Edward Kennedy and John McCain, and a growing number of leaders in both parties have put a new approach on the table. This approach would create legal channels for immigrants seeking opportunity, allow immigrants here to come out of the shadows and participate legally in society, deploy humane, intelligent border security measures, and cut off the black market for fake documents, exploitative employers, violent criminals, smugglers, and the like.

This seems reasonable to me.

While they claim only to offer support to the Border Patrol, the Mexican government is on edge, human rights activists have flooded the area, and President Bush has distanced himself from the effort.

And that proves the point that they are not only offering support to the Border Patrol? What a classic example of not proving one's point but making it seem so through gross obfuscation.

Of course it sounds reasonable to you. You are part of the Criminal Alien Lobby here on FR. As a Democrat and a 40 year ACLU member, you stand to win big pushing for illegals and "guest workers" getting the vote for your political hero's like Kennedy, Kerry, and Klinton.

If illegals are ALREADY here and working the current system, why should they bother with jumping through hoops to make themselves a "legal" migrant worker? There is no incentive without the threat of ILLEGALS being sent BACK to where they came from.

Kick up the numbers for legal immigration. Streamline the process. What ever we can do and still control the entry process. But to offer a covert AMNESTY will do nothing to deter further unLawful behavior.

Hmm, where's the immigration heroine to some on FR, hillary? She has not given any support to the minutemen.

Hmmm, the ACLU is against the Minutemen. I guess you and the ACLU think the same way, Dane.

We could play your games for hours, as a substitute for actual debate. But you're really not interesting in the latter, are you?

Ali Noorani is the author. Some clown named Ali Noorani is going to tell me how to fix immigration fairly? He just got off the banana boat while my people have been here 100 years with many freepers much longer.
