AUSTIN, Texas (Reuters) -- Texas lawmakers sent a message to the state's high school cheerleaders Wednesday: no more booty-shaking at the game.

The state's House of Representatives voted 85-55 to approve a bill that would forbid sexy cheers and give the Texas Education Agency authority to punish schools that allow "overtly sexually suggestive" routines at football games and other events.

The whining has already begun. One of the Tulsa, OK, stations had a "news" piece about this, showing bites from cheerleader coaches saying, "It'll be soooo hard to prepare for meets in different States. Some States will let us do a certain routine and others won't."

Imagine that, a comedy bit on the local news show.

Okay, I know I'll be called a prude, but I say good for Texas on this one.

Prude. :-)

I won't call you a prude, but I'd wager that you have one or more daughters. I do, and I understand the thinking behind this, but the notion that this can be legislated is kind of silly.

Reading the regulations would be like reading Penthouse letters.

Rule 1: Shaking your breasts is OK if and only if the movement is linear (up/down, left/right), circular shaking is strictly prohibited.

Rule 2: Bending over at an angle of greater than 30 degrees while shaking your a$$ is strictly prohibited.

Rule 3: Simulated autoeroticism is strictly prohibited.

You know, I'm having a little too much fun with these rules...

You've got to set it to "safe search." I know. My wife checks the history on the computer.

It may be time throw all the bums out.

Just as long as the cheerleaders are still allowed to shake their bums. :-)

I'm not even a Christian.

I just don't want my daughter being mauled by the players or acting like she works in Las Vegas

After watching a middle aged referee check out the tush of a 12 year old (middle school) cheerleader, the sweet young things do not have to shake anything in any kind of suggestive way to get the kind of attention you're talking about.

IMO, parents at the school district level should be the ones to put a stop or allow whatever is within "community standards", rather than having state legislation about this.

Too funny.

I was a technology trainer for years, and when teaching folks how to do internet searches, one of the women in the class (who had a daughter who was a cheerleader) did the same. I knew something was up when she turned a color seldom seen in nature.

I agree with you completely. Good for Texas, I hope Oklahoma follows suit. Let me say in advance, which you probably already know, get ready for the bashing and trashing coming your way.

I see your point. I personally think this should be taken care of on the family level. I'm no idiot, and I am a man, so yeah, yeah, of course I know why folks here want to SEE cheerleaders. But I can't understand how any self-respecting father could let his underaged daughter bump and grind in a mini-skirt, showing off her panties for the whole town. I'd want to punch every guy in the stands.

I don't have a daughter yet, but I my feelings about eventually having one border on terror. I've posted about this before.
:-)
