India on path-breaking nuclear research
Times of India ^ | MAY 07, 2005 | IANS

Posted on 05/07/2005 8:28:33 AM PDT by The Incredible One

KOLKATA: In a major leap for India's nuclear research, scientists here have reached the advanced stage of constructing a superconducting cyclotron that could break the monopoly of the West in the field.

To be operational in two years, this powerful cyclotron being developed at the Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre (VECC) here, namely K500, would be the seventh of its kind in the world.

There are three such cyclotrons in the US, one in Canada, one in Italy and one in the Netherlands.

"K500 would be indigenous and three times more powerful than the existing cyclotron here operational since 1980.

"It will be used by our scientists for carrying out highly advanced research experiments in nuclear science," the centre's director Bikash Sinha said.

"The majority of components were fabricated in the country and some of them, including the superconducting coil, at the VECC itself."

The evolution debate is important but not for the reasons I usually see discussed on FR. People should respect others' views and isolate that issue from others. Again, how we were created has nothing to do with the existence of God, except in the method he may have chosen to do it. People who lost their faith because they began to consider evolution as a viable theory were mistaken, in my opinion.

Those who insist on a young earth are attempting to conform science to their faith, but I can accept that as long as their methods do not cloud their application of the scientific method in other areas but I would be willing to hear evidence of a young earth at any time.

Those who say that young earth creationists cannot practice science because they refuse to conform to the beliefs of others are in danger of holding their own views as dogma on pure faith! There are many insightful, intelligent people who believe in a young earth. Their abilities in engineering and science are not necessarily compromised by their faith. It's a gross generalization to say so.

If evolutionists come to "believe" in their ideas instead of holding them as theories, they've lost the battle for applying the scientific method, and they've crossed over the line of dogma and become like those who believed the sun rotated around the earth because of a bible passage. If they mistreat young earth believers in their classrooms, for example, where is their duty to tolerance and respect for faith?

This question obligates the faithful to respect the views of others, but in today's secular world, it obligates those who understand biological history through the filter of evolutionary theory to respect the views of the faithful more than ever before.

It doesn't really matter what America does because India's nuclear arsenal is not aimed at the west but Pakistan China axis and if India gets better than China then we'll all shout 'Yahoooooooooooooooooooo we have done it'.

You might have an IQ of 188, but sadly IQ tests dont involve history.
My fear is that its over-confident people like you who will bring about the downfall of USA, beware its loosing friends fast.
In 19th century, compared to the rest of the world Great Britain was much more powerfull than US is right now. And it could'nt sustain it. US has had only a decade and a half of sole world domination and already there are signs of declining power with respect to the rest of the world.
It has lost major allies, unless you count Poland as one.
Real strength of US doesnt lie in the weapons it produces, it is just a fringe benefit of being able to attract the smartest. Its the freedom and opportunity which is a magnet. Its the declaration of rights (and thats why i say US is declining).
And people like you are doing no favour to US in attracting smart people.BTW people with an IQ of 188 don't need to use hyphenated words at the rate at which you use them.

<< BTW people with an IQ of 188 don't need .... >>

How would you know what we need?

Why, you haven't yet even noticed that the United States of America has stood astride the world these past 200+ years, not 15 and has, during those past 200 years, been -- and remains -- the greatest Nation to have ever existed.

You haven't noticed that for more than one hundred and fifty years -- not 15 -- America has both vaguarded and guarded Judeo-Christian/Western ["Human," that is] Civilization -- and has for almost one hundred years been the only Nation on the planet capable of projecting, to any place on Earth, the kind of power that has kept the world safe from barbarism -- and that there is not a single FRee Man on this planet who does not owe his FReedom to the willing sacrifice of American Blood and Treasure!

You also have not noticed that our Christian Nation is unique in Human History as the only one ever to have been Founded in and to stand upon the Principle of Individual Liberty and to have never gained an inch of any other people's or state's land or territory by way of aggression.

Or that the United States of America is about as "similar" to the Nineteenth Century once-great Britain to which you compare it [And which we had in any case defeated during the American War of Independence] as it is to -- say 2005 North Korea and/or Burma/myanmar.

And as for being attractive to and a magnet for emigrants/immigrants? It worked for this bright, intelligent and patriotic, born-a-"british-subject," hyphenated American.*

Our beloved FRaternal Republic surely attracted me!

[*I'm an AMERICAN-American!]

Best ones -- B A

I would know because last time I checked I scored 5 more than you on the modern test, IMHO you lack objectivity.
Secondly Judeo-Christian values and whatever else comes with it is not on my priority list. I think that a great achievement of Christainity is that it has been able to seperate church from state, which Islam has been unable to do and hence threatens the world order.
There is no doubt US is a strong nation, but the moot question is that should one take it for granted or should one strive to make it stronger?

<< Judeo-Christian values and whatever else comes with it is not on my priority list. >>

Too bad, given that all of Modern Human Civilization descends from Judeo-Christian values and principles, tenets and teachings and the adherence to, maintenance of and defense of Judeo-Christian values are all that set the United States of America apart from and above and ahead of every other trailing-in-our-wake state.

Conversely, every current chink in America's armor exists as the direct consequence of its lumpen politicians [Of whom, at every level, we also have many many scores of thousands] and other panderers failure to recognise that simple Truth and is the further consequence of those un-and-anti-Americans' anti-Christian consessions to Barbarism's "multi-culturalism" and other Trojan Horses.

Similarly -- and until all are willing to acknowledge Judeo-Christianity's Truths and that it is they that provide our Nation's very Foundation and ensure the strengths of its Law and its edifices, institutions and walls -- and themselves go back to basics [And, watch out, there are already more than two-hundred million Chinese Christians!] -- its every envy-motivated, hatred-engined and rage-driven, heperophobic wanna-be's squalid state will never be but the shallowist of Xerox copies of our Greatest-ever Nation.

Bringing America down to the level of relative squalor into which the rest of the world has dug itself will advance no state, no People and Mankind not one millimetre.

And in the meanwhile all may ponder that it was and is Judeo-Christianity's Laws and Principles and Tenets and FReedoms that have seen to the creativity, innovation, productivity and industry best witnessed in the United States of America -- and that virtually every noteworthy Human accomplishment -- ever! -- has been built on that foundation.

Laws and Principles and Tenets and FReedoms, that is, such as those that have seen to the advance of theory concerning, creation, innovation, invention, production and/or construction of such of Mankind's great benifits as Evolutionary Theory, FReedom, the Principle of Individual Liberty, "trains, planes, cars, rockets, satellites, telescopes, tires, telephones, radios, television, electricity, atomic energy, light bulbs, computers, and fax machines. All miracles made possible by the minds and [Judeo-Christian] spirits of men with names like Ampere, Bell, Caselli, Edison, Ohm, Faraday, Einstein, Cohen, Teller, Shockley, Hertz, Marconi, Morse, Popov. Ford, Volta, Watt, Michelin, Jefferson, Washington, FRanklin, Darwin, Dunlop, Watt, Diesel, Galileo, Cessna, Boeing, and other "dead white [Christians]."*

Five more, eh?

HehHehHeh ....

Very good.

But five points more, pray tell, dear fellow 'Ninety-Niner' -- and given that I was but vague about my "modern" score -- [Couple of double dashes for yah ongoing entertainment, there] than what?

And please don't mistake my FRequent foolishness and habitual irreverance for the absence of objectivity. Think of it rather as the wilful employment of subjectivity as a means to provoke interesting Men like you -- and to relieve boredom.

Blessings -- Brian

Hi
Thankyou for the blessings, they always help :)

I was wondering that out of the comprehensive list you have posted for my perusal, how many people actually attributed their success to the Judeo-Christian values?

Ampere, Bell, Caselli, Edison, Ohm, Faraday, Einstein, Cohen, Teller, Shockley, Hertz, Marconi, Morse, Popov. Ford, Volta, Watt, Michelin, Jefferson, Washington, FRanklin, Darwin, Dunlop, Watt, Diesel, Galileo, Cessna, Boeing

In the same context the thoughts of Copernicus and Gallileo came to my mind.

At a pinch I'd probably suggest that about half of them may have been so moved and insofar as Copernicus and Galileo are concerned that fact remains their work progressed in the environmement of relative freedom that prevailed only in those parts of the planet in which such values formed the basis of Law.

Charley Darwin, to whom I also awarded a Jersey -- or with due deference to the [Superior] game of flanneled fools -- a cap -- most certainly struggled with his faith while also appearing to be turning it upon its ear!

[He didn't, I would contend, for who am I to know how long was God's day?]

And you and I both know that the only sure-fire way to guarantee, first the attention of and in the end the certain hatred of our fellows, is to do for them .... um .... pretty much anything at all!

As you, just by way of being as bright as I suspect you may indeed very well be, have most certainly experienced.

For as a Man, who spent the first thirty years of His life in a carpenter's shop, who never wrote a book nor owned a house, was dead by the age of thirty three and never said much other than, "Love one another," once observed:

"If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you." -- [ John 15:18-19]

For: "A prophet is not without honor, save in his own country."" -- [Matthew 13:57]

And among his own family.

Blessings -- Brian

I buy the idea that an environment of relative freedom is important for technical progress. During and post renaissance the environment was certainly conducive. But other civilizations have also gone through similar phases at different points in time.

It's true that they have -- but where are they now.

Uniquely among Nations, ever, the United States of America's Constitution protects US against the ravages of such collectivist monsters as say China's long-finger-nailed "Mandarins" who long ago collectivized and destroyed China's blossoming and blooming Civilization -- or India's monstrous corrupticrats of most of the past 50+ years.

If, that is, we can but break the brunt of the attacks upon it initiated by the traitor, Roosevelt and sustained these past more than seven decades by our very own domestic-enemy politicians, "judges," bureaucrats and various other members of the parasitical classes; hang on to its tattered remnants and, please God, restore it and our beloved FRaternal Republic.

If you haven't read the American Declaration of Independence, Constitution and Bill of Rights, please do.

You will enjoy the visit with the Great Minds that were inspired to write and to publish those documents -- and to make their content the foundation of our nation's founding Law.

Blessings - BA
