Newsweek apologizes for getting Koran-Guantanamo Bay story wrong. (The Editor's Desk)

May 23 issue - Did a report in NEWSWEEK set off a wave of deadly anti-American riots in Afghanistan? That's what numerous news accounts suggested last week as angry Afghans took to the streets to protest reports, linked to us, that U.S. interrogators had desecrated the Qur'an while interrogating Muslim terror suspects. We were as alarmed as anyone to hear of the violence, which left at least 15 Afghans dead and scores injured. But I think it's important for the public to know exactly what we reported, why, and how subsequent events unfolded.

The biggest impact any of us will have to is boycott Newsweek, both their advertisers, and the subscription department.

This story has always had two or more questions involved, the blood-lust for Newsweek, (and rightfully so), but the larger questions of the Islamic cults and their continued quest for victim-hood.

Do we continue to feed that vicimhood?

Isn't this religious intolerance to the point of murder by Islamics not willing to proceed to the 21st century, and their inability to accept modernity the whole of our problem?

Is not their refusal to deal in political disputes at the table instead of with a suicide bomber to blackmail a government, a sign of their unwillingness to become civilized?

I say we turn our ire towards the cults, and the Arab media, who love the deaths of those they incite and refuse to educate thru their own media.

Do you really think Newsweek or the writer of the story gave any thought about the consequences?

Yeah, I think he did know this would have anti-American ramifications but I don't think he thought it would happen this fast or as far away as it did.

He may have just thought about how it would get played here in the US media and didn't take into account how this would be use by some muslims as a propaganda tool.

Do you think Newsweek going back on the story, or revising it was done voluntarily or to head off a legal suite?

Head off a legal suit......

And why do I have this "feeling" that like their co-conspirator, SeeBS, having learned nothing, they will continue to make these false reports?

The families of the people who died have a pretty good wrongful death suit against Newsweek. Hope the sue them into bankruptcy. It's nothing more than a stupid tabloid.

In 1955, a young black man was apparently lynched, or otherwise murdered, in the US after a story went around that he whistled at a white woman, or something like that. Obviously whistling is not a crime, and the blame for the murder lies with those who committed it. The same could be said for the Newsweek situation. My only point was that Newsweek had to have known it was "stirring the pot" with an inflammatory story on skimpy, or no, evidence. Not only is it irresponsible, but past a certain point such actions appear DESIGNED to evoke some kind of response - disdain for the US effort at the very least - because the consequences are so foreseeable.

Maybe the analogy is strained, I don't know. I could also ask whether it's ironic that the press runs with stories like these after trashing the Bush administration for itself (allegedly) not being thorough enough in vetting stories about WMDs in Iraq.

Newsweek has shown its complete lack of seriousness on this issue.... Not only by publishing a FALSE REPORT... causing deaths... but frankly even if it were true, publishing it at a time of war in the first place.

Thanks Newsweek, now more of our citizens and soldiers will die thanks to your stupidity and political hatred of the current administration. Ever dead soldier and citizen that is killed in the Muslim world from this point on... puts blood on your hands!

Cowards and Traitors!

Newsweek senior writer talking about Burger King and McDonalds on MSNBC this morning. It's amazing how they can go from killing people to giving restaurant reviews.

I forgot about their advertisers. We could write to them, too, and let them know why.

"but to go bonkers and KILL people over flushin' a Koran is ludicrous.

You can only hold NW responsible to a certain extent on this..."

Everyone knows Muslims are 'bonkers' by now. I mean, they kill innocent people and expect to be rewarded by God for it. If that isn't bonkers, what is?

Anyone with the common sense of a cockroach could have predicted they would riot and kill if they hear of someone desecrating their holy book. They are frigging nuts. Newsweek is totally responsible.

Isn't Newsweek guilty of blasphemy? That's a pretty serious crime in some quarters.

This story just makes me sick. WHAT is going on with these Libs? Are they ALL mentally ill???

I imagine DU is celebrating.

I am glad this is getting some attention, although not nearly to the degree it deserves.

Wish the SeeBS Ken Starr deception would get a brighter spotlight, too. I've seen no mention of it on Fox, Drudge, anywhere.

You know I'm sure a bunch of us are tired of these whiny assed muslims. They sound just like harry reid and the liberals. i wouldn't apologize to a single one of those illiterate barbarians over in the desert. their religious leaders must have taken classes on media manipulation and propaganda from rev. jackson and the libs in congress. if this country didn't have mercy we and russia woulda blasted everyone and split the world up by now.

"For his sake, I hope the muslim world doesn't learn that Mr. Isikoff personally flushed five Korans down the toilet in order to check whether it could be done."

Yep, Micheal Isikoff is in serious trouble. He is the only American who truly hates Muslims. When Muslims discover that he ritually desecrates the Koran before he goes to bed every night, they are going to come after him. May Allah have mercy on his soul....

Heads need to roll at Newsweek and in the media elites ranks.

I don't want them fired, I want them in jail. Only a high profile court case that goes on for months will make it finally into the ME conciousness that this was a lie.

It will make an interesting suit. Warner Brothers beat theirs against the Jenny Jones show. It will be precedent setting if liability is found against Newsweek for the criminal actions of others.
