I know some folks here are unhappy with some things Home Depot does but this is something good!

And just how do we family members go about proving our eligible status for the discount? Bring a picture of the serviceman in and point out the family resemblance?

Good for them. Now all you military guys and gals, no bar-b-ques for you this weekend. Go paint the house or something!

DoD Dependant ID should be sufficient, I should think?

Or a copy of deployment orders, if the spouse is caled up?

I'll still go to Lowes. HD is cluttered and unfriendly, I've been into the Lowes by my house so many times in the last month. When I walk in I'm almost ready to hear "NORM"!
They are always very friendly and the store is exceptionally clean.

There are smaller family run businesses that are offering discounts to service men and women.

Does anyone know of a website where such information is posted?

The 10-percent-off offer is good on purchases up to $2,000 for a maximum discount of $200

HD has done this for anyone for several years...usually around Memorial Day, Labor Day...etc...use your HD card and get the discount.

In short...they're not going out of their way...

Oh, don't bother trying. Just sit on your fat butt all weekend and mutter about the unfairness of it all!

Military Dependant ID cards, copy of the orders calling him to active duty, heck - call the Reserve or Guard Center and talk to the Rear Det. NCOIC and get a certificate. Those would be my guesses for starters.

Have you checked to see what ACE is doing? National chain but the stores are locally owned.

Very cool! I think Sears is very military friendly too. So be sure to burn out your beer fridge this weekend and give Sears some support too! :)

They do this all the time with their customers.

3-4 times a year.

It helps.

Will check.

We were advised to contact the DoD, Stars and Stripes etc., but no one replied. These are small businesses that want to show appreciation to service men and women by offering discounts (some are small, but heartfelt.)

We have a small like $1 store that's donating flags for the Scouts to put on each veteran's grave for Memorial Day and it's a little Mom & Pop store.

This chick doesn't buy tools. ;) I like to shop the "softer side of Sears!"

You sound like my wife.

The only way she can get me to go shopping with her is to promise to deposit me in the Tool Department of Sears and leave me alone.
