If someone doesn't like what Walmart pays and the kinds of benefits they have they can always find another job. That option is there. I'm so tired of hearing people complain about Walmart.

I love having a variety of places to shop for groceries. It creates competition and lower prices. Whoever has the product I want at the lowest price gets my business around here.

I'll get it to you, but it'll be a case study page and chapter, once I get home. You can look it up yourself from there. Count on it.

Couldn't find your book?

Certainly it is my business how ANY business operates. Business don't operate in a vacuum. When a company operates in a manner that causes harm

Define harm. Is harm dumping toxic waste on playgrounds? Or is it being an open shop? Or not paying the wages you or some pig union boss decides is "fair"? Or not offering benefits you deem satisfactory?

Mind your business.

oh c'mon!...you can't be seriously this narrow!...how many of the employees are there part-time just to fill in the few hours their children are in school (and for that matter, does Wal-Mart actually allow these "come and go" caretakers to "come and go" as they please?). I personally know of no such cases, and I have quite a few friends that work at Wally World.

Lower stress?...you've got to be kidding! these low-level jobs only increase the stress when all you make is $6.25 an hour and you need to feed your kids, parents, etc.! (Some places in the country, this is the only place to work.)

I cannot believe how narrow minded you seem!

My apologies to your children and parents!

Hi, honey. Hope you don't screw up and get yourself banned lol. AP and NW, allow me to introduce you to my daughter. I told you all I was saving this thread for my children and grandchildren.

What was the number of the post you were responding to?

BTW, she is on her own here, and so am I. We generally don't agree on much of anything, even the weather lol.

Anyway, this is one now middle-aged poster who had EVERY reason to vote dem. Unprompted by her mother, she got Kerry's number in the Iowa caucuses and voted Bush.

These are the voters Republicans are going to lose and would gain more of if they would put some compassion where their mouth is and take the plight of the American workers to heart instead of letting corporate contributions and lobbies run their agenda.

I do agree in some cases, it is a lifestyle choice for perhaps some people who just want to get out of the house and earn al ittle extra money, i.e., retirees and so on, but I have seen a lot of what you said where people are trying to make a living on those jobs as well and it is very frustrating to them, especially when they had a good job and lost it. BTW, welcome aboard!

That's it in a nutshell. The Reagan Democrats are made up of generally blue-collar and lower income people who are appalled at the liberal social agenda. They don't want things like homosexual marriage, abortion, and so on to wither expand or exist at all. I know for me, that is generally the case. If they keep up with that attitude, many voters will toss caution to the wind and vote for a change. We got that with Bill Clinton. Thank God we were able to somewhat contain him but it was a long, hard fight and I do think we did lose some ground there, witness the liberal judges and so on. We cannot have another Bill Clinton and God forbid, a Hillary. If she gets in, we are toast.

The Republican's saving grace in 2004 was values and the controversy over homosexual marriage along with barking moonbats like Howie Dean who is a gift that keeps on giving. I think the best case is to shut up about Howie and just let him bark, he might be the Republican's salvation in 2008 as these issues on values, jobs and immigration keep piling up like stacks of cordwood.

The Republicans need to change their tune and show some compassion for the average worker, otherwise, "nature abhores a vacuum" and someone, something will come and fill that void.

If you think about it, my comments are the opposite of narrow. I am pointing out that there are as many reasons to work at a place of employment as there are employees.

Your comments on the other hand are silly!

does Wal-Mart actually allow these "come and go" caretakers to "come and go" as they please?

----No they are chained to shopping carts! The guards with shotguns at the door allow no one out. Its a Gulag I tell you!!

I am not sure what your apologies are about, my kids have worked for minimum wage (pizza hut) and learned valuable lessons -- I suppose you would say they were oppressed too.

What is a living wage? Who sets the standard? ALF-CIO? Are you willing to spend big bucks for a toaster? Most of these people don't stay at Wal-Mart! My wife worked there briefly. She left for a new job. One of her friend who still works there was promoted from cashier to the optical dept. My wife's friend never had a professional job in her life! She was so excited, because this was a big opportunity for her. She was impressed that they thought of her that highly to promote her. If the chain was unionized she may never have gotten the job. Often people who work at these store are young, just starting out or like my wife in between professional jobs. Often it is not unusual for Wal-Mart to fire screw ups who run off to break room and sleep under the tables (this has happened) or people using drugs (this to has happened too). In either case if a union is involved it would drive costs up because of difficulty of getting rid of someone. Additionally, I am not going to shop at store were the hourly wages are going to be high, because it will drive prices up. Additionally, if there is high rate employee turnover, why offer them benefits. You would price yourself out of the market. Consumes shop on price (you state that you sometimes shop at Aldi's, which is very cheap. I guess you don't live near a Save-A-Lot). Not left wing union values.
