Moreover, convenience is still an issue for consumers. Unless these companies model themselves in a Japanese-style where a company like Mitsubishi makes everything from airplanes to television sets, which may or may not be the best idea right now, you STILL have a problem with one-stop shopping--and when you are trying to compete on price, not brand, that's tough.

Why do I want to stop at 6 warehouses when I can stop at one store to do all of my shopping?

My Wal-Mart is clean and the clerks seem courteous and happy. It's not Neiman Marcus, but probably pays about the same.

Gov't regs are the main reason they have so many part-time workers.

Also, a lot of small companies keep their staff below 50, even though they need and could afford more workers, because if you employ over 50, you get into a whole differant ball park re gov't regs.

I agree!

I only would accept a helping hand ,if I really needed it and as soon as the need disappeared ,I would refuse any further help!

Maybe that is just me and I hope the need will never arise!

So I take it that you accept everything the Fed states as God's honest truth? If you think the Fed is telling you the truth on inflation, well it is, after it takes out everything from the equation that is volitile or inflationary. Funny how all my bills have gone up an average of 5-10%, cable up $5 to $94, home phone up $3 to $35, insurance up $40 to almost $400. Heating, though that was nice: up 25% two years in a row. Gas, up but we all know that. Food, up about 10%. The best one is grad school, tuition this year (public university) went up a mild 90%. Sure inflation is nothing but 2%, sure.

I have to go to work.

But let me say, there are an increasing number of people addicted to that helping hand -- both employees and employers. And it's a situation that can't be sustained forever.

Oh, bfree is all about the dictating. Note the bandwidth sheriff's badge he puts on. The other thing the Free Traitors love to do, is instantly scream socialist at anyone who questions the logic of giving it all away to a communist dictatoriship, never mind that they are the Chinese enablers. This way they've got you on the defensive and do not have to deal with your issues. The Free Traitor version of yelling "racist".

You cross a lot of lines there buddy and you don't live up to your name, at least not when it comes to others, to whom you seem to enjoy dictating.

Mexico was the center for outsourcing until China drained them. Even now, a lot of US companies still go there: that's the sucking sound of NAFTA.

But those aren't internet stores, those are brick and mortar, which entails a lot of costs. And those kind of super discount warehouses exist everywhere, they're often called "dirtmalls" and people do drive from all over for them, of course most of the stuff is complete junk that will break when you toss it in your trunk for the drive home, but the people come anyway.

do you have figures on what all the other employees at all other retail places that pay minimum wage are being subsidized in government money? Probably not due to the fact that only walmart is under scrutiny. Take a look at any mall. Do you think the employees at the Gap or at Borders or at Bath and Body works working the registers make that much more than minimum wage? What about Target? Don't hear much about that, now do you? Why don't all of you who are throwing rocks at Walmart for their horrible wages go take a poll at other retail stores and find out what their starting pay is. Maybe...just maybe you might then see the light.

So I take it that you accept everything the Fed states as God's honest truth?

You'll have to remind me, where did I say that? Post # please.

What I find funny is that protectionists who often don't know how to add or multiply believe that their personal experience is a more accurate indicator of inflation than a room full of computers and PhDs in Washington can come up with.

Heating, though that was nice: up 25% two years in a row.

That's terrible, how much of your income did you spend on heating? You think it had the same impact on my friends in California and Florida that it did on you?

Gas, up but we all know that. Food, up about 10%.

How much did you spend on gas and food? And what orifice did you pull that 10% increase out of, or could you have a real link?

The best one is grad school, tuition this year (public university) went up a mild 90%. Sure inflation is nothing but 2%, sure.

Wow, a few public school students paid more for tuition, that must mean inflation for the entire country is 90%?

Your cute little stories are very interesting, now how about some facts? Feel free to get private sector info, it exists you know. Wouldn't want those government numbers to screw you up.

Still waiting for your salary link. Wouldn't want everyone to think you're making stuff up.

'People resent the capitalist system because it leads to inequality, but they don't realize that it's the capitalist system that allows us to live on what we deem a "living wage" in the first place.'

Is it not amazing how the word "poor" is bandied about on these anti-Walmar-t threads?

The Term "Poor" brings up such horrid images of scarecrow-like waifs begging for food.

Poor in Bangladesh means their is a better than average chance you will die of starvation.

Poor in the USA means you can only afford to buy an old secondhand Xbox instead of the new Xbox 360.

You are absolutely correct!

I don't consider myself poor and neither do my kids!

The value everything they have and don't ask for much!

I was wondering when the olde Free Traitor mantra of protectionist was going to come out. Demanding fair and equal trade is not protectionism, but it will cut into the profits of certain Free Traitors.

Looked all thru post #795 and don't see the word protectionist. So, what the hell are you talking about?

Perhaps a remedial reading class is in your future?
