Just sent an email to the Sun Herald "Sound Off" column. If it is printed, I'll be amazed. The same people here on the Coast, are whining about high gas prices, but they don't want oil rigs off the coast. Fat, lazy, complacent Americans make me sick. The Arab Muslims have us by the gonads (oil), and we bicker about some islands. Total , idiocy in the highest form. Drill for oil, and drill some more. Damn the islands, and Saudi be dammned as well.

well, I am one of those Coastians, and don't want to see oil rigs in the Gulf
a. yes, we need to reduce our dependency on foreign oil
b. yes, this would be of benefit to the state treasury
c. yes, this might lower gasoline prices (one thing I think we can all agree would be beneficial)
however...
1. tourism is the lifeblood of the Coast - yes, there are other sources of income, but tourism leads the way - oil rigs just on the other side of, say, Ship Island, just would not be conducive to tourism
2. there are increased risks of oil spills - even minor spills would likely devistate the already less than blue waters on the beach and the beach itself
there are certainly arguments that can be made on both sides; but, in this matter I can't support Haley
