I have been reading that series, too. But like Jordan when the heck is he going to come out with the next book! Goodkind finally came out with another for his Sword of Truth series, so I am placaded for the moment. I can't stand authors that leave their fans hanging for years in between books. I understand the preassure and all, but if ya can't handle it don't start such a big series!
I read SF - with a few exceptions (Bujold comes to mind), chicks are not as good at the space opera type stuff I like. So, guess what? I read more David Weber than, say, Anne McCaffrey. Simple explanation. Chicks do "relationships" and "feelings" (mostly) and guys do the zoom, whoosh, boom stuff.
C. L. Moore.
Darn, you beat me.I should have read down to the end of the replys. Also I don't have any Coulter pictures.
"But like Jordan when the heck is he going to come out with the next book!"
You will be happy to know that Martin announced on his website on Sunday that he finished A Feast For Crows, and it will be published soon :)
Ann Coulter/Laura Ingraham/Michelle Maulkin...for starters.
Cool, will look forward to it. I would like to find out how John does as Commander of the Black Watch(I think that is what it is called, been a while). Also how things shape up with the war of succession.
That is really funny... I remember passing around a notebook back in HS for people to make their random literary contributions. By the time the notebook was filled, we had one helluva Star Trek story on our hands.
Try Louis McMaster Bujold, Elizabeth Moon, and Andre Norton. No "lesbian fanstasies" or all female societies there.
"A Civil Affair" by Bujold was one of the best books I have ever read - it had me rolling on the floor laughing. No Zoom-Whoosh-Boom stuff, but hillarious. Bujold has slipped a lot in the new fantasy novels she's writing (Curse, Paladin, etc.).
...showing that the prize would realize its goal if only it had more government funding....sarc
So that's what happened!
Good news! He's the only fantasy writer I still read. I'm a former lover of the genre, but after 9/11 it really became apparent to me how much bilious tripe was being published under the banner of "epic fantasy" and I switched to hard science fiction...the harder, the better.
Melanie Rawn is a great example of the article's theme. Women seem to love her writing - I read about a third of one of her books and couldn't finish it (and that never happens with me.) It was just like a soap opera: too many people sitting in rooms and talking in great detail about things that didn't make any difference. ;)
I know it is not fiction but I have read all four of Ann Coulter's books. I have books by Peggy Noonan, Michelle Malkin, Mona Charan. As I said, it's not fiction but does it count as reading books by women?
Two words to these ninnys - Agatha Christie. Only the most widely sold mystery writer in history !
" The male authors stick to the plot - the female authors put in a lot of lefty-touchy-feely crap that takes away from the story. "
So you've just admitted in your own freudian way that you aren't into foreplay. LOL okay
I can't read most books written by women. I like action and adventure (hence, I'm a big SF fan). Women write about emotions and relationships, which I find incredibly boring.
The classics are passe, but surely the list used to include the Bronte sisters, Austen, Eliot, Dickinson. The twentieth century has its share of best sellers: Buck, Ferber, Cather, Parker, etc.
And, of course, Betty Crocker. :)
Andre Norton chose that androgynous sounding name for the reasons expounded in this article, which is even moreso for the sci-fi genre. Many women throughout history who have chosen to write have selecte male names--the Bronte sisters, George Eliot, etc.
Agreed. A co-worker and I have a bet going on who Jon's real parents are. I'm looking forward to winning the bet :)
I'm a woman, and I can't stand Melanie Rawn. But that's just because I think her writing isn't that good. However, one of my favorite writers in the SciFi/Fantasy genre is Ursala K. LeGuin. The EarthSea series is pretty good, although the SciFi Channel movie was total crap.
