Aurora Couple Indicted On Enslavement Charges

Federal authorities have accused an Aurora couple of allegedly enslaving an Indonesian woman in their home for four years while the husband regularly raped her.

Federal indictments issued Thursday accuse the couple of forcing the woman to care for their children and perform other domestic chores without paying her. Homaidan Al-Turki and Sarah Khonaizan face charges that could result in life imprisonment.

The indictment said 36-year-old Al-Turki and 35-year-old Khonaizan confiscated the woman's passport and visa.

The indictment also alleges the woman was intimidated with aggravated sexual abuse. Al-Turki faces numerous sexual-assault charges.

Al-Turki faces state charges of 12 counts of rape, two counts of kidnapping and one count each of false imprisonment and extortion.

His wife is charged in state court with kidnapping, false imprisonment and extortion.

If convicted, Al-Turki faces up to life in prison because the charges against him included aggravated sexual assault, according to Jeff Dorschner, a spokesman for the Colorado U.S. attorney's office.

Federal authorities are attempting to confiscate almost $93,000 from the couple's bank accounts for what authorities estimate the couple saved by not paying the woman.

Homaidan Al-Turki and Sarah Khonaizan

Hmm. Not to profile or anything, but what part of the world could these folks be from?

My guess would be some country where slavery is accepted.

Hummm. Wasn't there another case very recently, almost identical to this, in which a Saudi princess enslaved a woman and abused her?

We shouldn't be too quick to judge here. We need to be sensitive to the culture these people come from. What if this type of behavior is culturally acceptable where they come from? We can't force our "Western-centric" ideas of equality and human dignity on them.

May be CAIR will get involved and help us all understand why they did what they did. Before that, let us not accuse them with our bigoted mindset and typical stereotyping of Muslims. (Sarcasm).

Rats are rats wherever they are.

Did the police raid their residence? If so this a violation of their "right" to privacy. That would justify their enslavement of the woman just as that "right" justified sodomy.

Multi-culturalism and "Diversity" are WAY overrated. A slave-holding muslim is just another small example.

This is perfectly acceptable in the Arab/Muslim world.

Of course, these people think they can come to the US and behave exactly as they do in their Mohammedan homeland.

Of course, the Left, the MSM and Bush thinks they should be able to, and encourages them in such behaviors.

This is VERY common in the Arab world.

Read "Princess," written by Jean Sasson. It's about the life of the daughter of a Senior Saudi Royal in Saudi Arabia.
