It won't matter. No matter how awful the precedent, Scalia will stand by it.

"I want to see the Preseident come out fast and hard against this decision"

You have got to be kidding? No way Bush does anything and no way Congress does anything. Government just took away private property in the usa and believe making government will not give it back.

We are no longer a free people, we are now living in tyranny. Not quite a communist state, not quite a fascist state but definitely not a free republic. If you think about the power government has taken under GOP rule, with the WOD and the WOT, you would never vote GOP again.

I can gues how the 5-4 split went. Ginsberg, O'Connor, Souter, Stevens, Breyer on the side of allowing property to be seized for economic development and Rhenquist, Thomas, Kennedy, and Scalia against.

Rhenquist (80) will be the next to retire and them probably Stevens (85).

Wow this is a great ruling. I have seen a couple of houses I would not mind owning. Now thanks to this if I claim I plan on fixing them up and upping the taxable value I can just kick the owners out and move right in. What? Only the Government can steal private property, what a bummer. Guess I'll just stay where I am.

I want to see the Preseident come out fast and hard against this decision, and stand up for property owners rights on this issue. On this he must take a stand.\

LOL

Don't hold your breath.

O'Conner
Rehnquist
Thomas
Scalia

were on the side of the Constitution.

Kennedy joined the liberals.

Frankly, I fear that may happen with the Ten Commandments ruling next week. We have to have both swing votes for the Ten Commandments to be upheld, and I have to say, I think that highly unlikely.

And the file-sharing ruling, in which they may decide that the Betamax decision is moot and now the technology is to blame for law-breaking instead of the people.

I saw on 'Dateline' the other night that it is legal to purchase and own a .50 caliber long gun in all 50 states (although California looks poised to outlaw them). I don't know why I thought of that just now. Sorry for going off topic.

“Many of you are well enough off that ... the tax cuts may have helped you. We’re saying that for America to get back on track, we’re probably going to cut that short and not give it to you. We’re going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good.
These words, which reflect true socialism, were spoken by Hillary Rodham Clinton. If we don't band together and work hard for whoever is running against her in 2008, she'll be the President of the United States - and socialism will be our official policy.

O'Connor was in the dissent. The majority was: John Paul Stevens (author), Anthony Kennedy, John Souter, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Stephen Breyer.

Thanks, I couldn't find it. I'd still like to see her get on an ice floe.

This court is re-writing the constitution. We no longer have property rights. Now at the whim of a corrupt government, they can seize your property and bulldoze it. Wake up America we just lost another bit of freedom!

That it wasn't going to be THEIR homes that were taken.

Wrong.

Kennedy was for taking the property.

O'Conner wrote a stinging dissent in favor of private property rights.

It appears that the ballot box is failing us.

Good thing there's still one box left.
