Thanks. I would expect that of him. Any of the less usual suspects? I can't believe something this big is not all over the MSM. I guarantee you that if the make up of the majority had been conservative it would have been.

I may actually listen to NPR in the morning to see how Nina Totenberg covers it. I have such disdain for her, and I'm really hoping she is going to squirm a bit on this one.

I don't watch TV, but it was all over the radio news and not just Paul Harvey. They all seem genuinely surprised at such a blatant ruling.

Well, nothing to do at the moment but hold on tight. Given the nature of this ruling, I bet there is a rush to the microphones to get a political leg up in the next few weeks by both parties.

The next question will be how do we fix this. (Obvious answer: a more conservative court) But because of the nonpartisan response on the part of real people, I think it could actually be a great catalyst for change.

I actually think that most Dems are going to be somewhat shaken with this ruling because it so strongly goes against what they believe themselves to be. I bet the polling companies are busy tonight! It's going to be an interesting ride.

I missed it if they did.

The bottom line is that 99% of Americans are p.o.ed about this decision.

In a weird way this is more uniting than 9-11.

Wish the other side would wake up and be careful what they wish for.

The issue has been around forever, but now it is fully transparent. It wouldn't be a surprise to hear a ton of stuff during the election cycle. We might also find ourselves allied with some surprising groups.

That's scary in and of itself. But unlike our opponents, I hope we stand for what is right instead of "against whatever they are for."

Just read the NYT spin on another thread. Unbelievable.

it makes one wonder if our country's fathers should have john locke's provision for the right to own property in the Declaration of Independence, along with the right to life.

Jefferson's draft of the Declaration of Independence included the rights to "life, liberty and property," but Adams and Franklin edited property to the more euphemistic "happiness." As I understand, Jefferson's draft was drawn largely from the Rights of Man document adopted by the Virginia House of Delegates.

If we bone up on the Constitutional debate of 1787, actual text readily available , we will see the sincerity of the people of that time to avoid a calamity that was bearing down on them, and from 200+ years of experience including some really nasty things, we can improve somewhat. Just somewhat, the Constitution of 1789 was pretty slick and very practical.

>> I guess I'm just waiting around for someone to organize the pitchfork brigade.

It is not quite that bad.

We get a shot at our government every two years, and things will change. Rapidly, I hope and believe.

America was founded by people who incorporated revolution into the process of government. In fact, the more loud the arguments, and the more concerned the average man becomes over the misgoverning of the republic, the stronger we become.

Be afraid when the political conflict stops, and everyone agrees.

Many different groups in France and the Netherlands came together recently to defend National Sovereignty.

The forces of good can beat the forces of evil, if the good guys (and gals...) get together.

I wonder if this precedent setting decision was based off of foreign law.

The real question is, at what level does a ruling justify judicial Impeachment?

It's argued, of course, but the answer is that impeachment is a political decision. Congress HAS the power. They are just chicken to exercise it. Then the crap rolls downhill to the people to elect Congress people who are NOT chicken.

If I ever left England, I would choose between America and Australia. Australia just shifted a touch more in favour.

If I had to choose between guns and land .... it would be a tough choice, but I'd make the right decision.

Wondering what the local government must pay for your home, once it decides to condemn. Anyone know the particulars on the New London case?

I don't. But here is something to chew on ... the value of the condemned property may have been propped up by welfare to begin with.

The entire schtick is about control, and that can come from both directions.

"Actually there is some question where private property comes from in the first place"

Not really any question; just an unwillingness to deal with it. Private property comes from military conquest. AKing would divide up the lands taken in battle among his military officers, who would in turn sell some of it on the open market.

A good example of this would be the many French, Portugese, Spamish, and Mexican land grants that make up much of this country. These grants have been fully recognized by all just governments.

Not sure what you mean by propped up by welfare, but agreed that government actions regularly distort the market.

I seem to remember something in a piece of parchment named the Declaration if Independence. It mentioned that one of the grievances against the King mentioned his agents seizing property unjustly.
